This thread is to pay tribute to the greatest vehicle in all of Planetside (IMO), the Lightning. I picked up this cert a few days ago, and have never looked back. The fun we have together is amazing. From just barely escaping AV grunts by creeping over the crest a hill after I had already lost control and was decelerating quickly and healing back up again, to chasing weaker vehicles across the battlefield, me and my lightning have had a blast together. Nothing gets my heart pumping like those high speed chases against enemy vehicles. I urge anyone who has not tried the Lightning to pick up the cert and give it a whirl. You wont regret it.
 for teh Lightning

I second the love for the lighting. Have u tried a wolfpack of lightings yet? The best thing in the game bar none. my suggestion is 5 in a squad no more, no less, u get good xp sharing and enough firepower to take down pretty much anything.

flcn, with the small exception of a few intelligent lancer users, most vanoobs dont know how to shoot a lancer (eg lead) to save their life, and a lighting moves freaking fast, so most of the time
Lighting > Lancer

Sure, bring some lightnings, they go down in seconds to all the guys whit strikers :D
Less people in mags and vangs the better for me hehe

"Hey free kill coming up on our left."
Only takes 3 150mm's to kill them and they are easy to lead and hit with it..

Lightning wolf packs = Reaver bait
Lightnings are good, but if a heavy tank or Reaver comes by, kiss your little tanks ass goodbye. But it can kill most things. If you can lead with the 12mm good, you can even take down aircraft.

My outfit used to do the lightning wolf pack. and we got our asses kicked from time to time. That is till the skyguard came in. We take 10 lightnings and 3 skyguards. good times.

I wound up in a lightning pack last night and had a blast, we killed a good amount of stuff, got some good exp and had a blast in the process.
We didn't actually push the enemy lines because the Lightening just isn't made for that role.
I find hunting AMS's, Flails, and running in a circle as super high speed around infantry rules in the lightning.
As a longtime lancer user, I salivate at the sight of lightnings. I'll also echo other people in this thread that two people in a battle tank is way better than two people in lightnings.

As a long-time Lightning driver, I love the dang little tank. I go down to mines, AV, tanks and other lightnings more than anything. The reaver isn't the scariest thing to a lightning, at least not one on one.
Guide to reaver combat:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When a reaver is spotted, move as quickly as you can, forget firing, you won't hit. Determine which type of pilot he is. Reaver pilots either hover for their shots, or make rocket runs. The hoverer dies more often, and is usually less experienced, but in a solo fight, they are deadlier to lightnings. The rocket runners are experienced pilots, dangerous, but there's a weakness in what they do in a one on one fight.
If the reaver is a hoverer, move until he fires off a full salvo. Once he does, take a sec to slow down and fire at him. Once he begins another salvo, accelerate to full speed and make sharp turns. Once he's done with that salvo, you should be able to finish him off, assuming that you're not a smoking lump of coal.
If the reaver is making runs, it's much easier. After the first salvo, stop to stabilize your gun and turn your vehicle backwards while you fire at your target. Turning backwards throws them off, because they know which way you were facing and tend to fire in front of you a little(various reasons, won't go into reaver tactics). When you see them come around for another run, wait til you see rockets, then move forward(what will look like backwards to them hopefully). After that salvo, stop and defeat your target.
If the reaver gets off 2 salvos of good hits, you're dead. If he doesn't, and you've managed to shoot decently, he's dead or running. It's actually really easy to keep from losing to a reaver on a solo basis.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, I salute the little Pinto 'oh Powah!

I never had any fun with it because I would always be found by a Van and get taken out in 1-2 hits. Now thats no fun.

I've been driving a Lightning since beta, and it is my favorite vehicle in the game by far. It was pretty hard to use back in the day when it did not have a turret and the weapons only faced to the front of the tank, but the 360 degree turret and 2x the armor they gave it really made a difference. I remember the day they gave it the turret, I came across 2 Vanguards, both with the crew repairing. I killed the driver of one Vanguard, the gunner jumped in the now driverless tank, and the crew for the other tank jumped in. The Van with the full crew was damaged pretty bad, and I kept driving over hills, denying them a clear shot. I had actually succeded in destroying that Van, and starting shooting the driverless Van with my cannon before a friendly Deliverer came from another direction and took it out.
Since that day, I've never looked back.
(P.S. Reavers are pussies. ;) )
