View Full Version : Infil Clarification

I was reading through the dev tracker, and Spork posted an update on the fixes they are currently working on regarding the infils. There was such an outcry over making infils more visible during sustained actions (BANK, REK, Med App) and Spork has now clarified that the fix is not what he had originally made it sound like. Apparently this was all just a giant miscommunication because there were some sustained action items (the Laze specifically) which actually didn't increase infil visibility. Basically, if you use the Laze you'll be just as visible as you already are when using the REK/BANK/etc. There are no 'plans' to change that visibility level although he did give himself an out there by not really committing to it.
Seeing as how that was the only fix that concerned me on the list, I'm pretty pleased by that.
Also, Spork did state for the record that they are aware of the half second of visibility when people spawn into an area and that they are working on it but it's a much harder fix than the rest of these items and will take longer to get coded.

Yeah, being more visible while hacking/healing/repairing than we already are was one of the dumbest things I have heard of yet. If troopers are so braindead and innatentive that they can not scan the consoles or watch the front of thier AMS occasionally it deserves to be hacked. I mean its not like there isnt a distinct constant hacking sound or a little red beam. People are just lazy and want it easy all the time. Finding infiltrators needs to be a hell of a lot harder than it already is, not the other way around

Darklight shows enemy deployables like they're glowing.
People don't just use it for spotting cloakers.
edit: by which I mean that Darklight is a huge factor against cloakers for many, many reasons.

And it's also kind enough to reveal how many enemies are inside an AMS bubble from the outside, along with all of their names and whether or not any of them are scanning the area with darklight. It also reveals an AMS position from further away than you'd normally be able to notice it.
It's still used to hunt infil more than anything.
Smoke has already said DL is getting a serious look but he won't reveal the change they have in mind other than to say that DL won't be 100% correct all the time and that it should increase the cat and mouse games between grunts and infil. I'm gonna have some fun.
One thing I wouldn't mind with DL is locking the implant on until it has drained 50 stamina (or dropped you to 0). This would keep the 'flickering' to a minimum and it would allow infiltrators who pay close attention an opportunity to try and time a run at a person. It would also commit the individual to a limited field of vision, making it a significant choice you'd have to make.

Well the VS don't even need DL at the AMS (NO I am not turning this into a nerf the lasher thread)
I was using my cloaker toon and was hacking a VS AMS from the front no sooner does a VS spawn grab a lasher and shoot up the side of the AMS killing me with lash damage. It really sucked. Personally I wouldn't mind having lash damage halved or something like that against cloakers just to give the TR and NC infils a little bit of a chance.

Darklight is a very effective tool when used correctly. For example, hack a console at a base then crouch with your weapon drawn and Darklight off. When a door opens and nobody appears just spam the room with some shots...but do not turn on darklight. Then just wait a tad, turn it on, there he is, crouch walking, then crouch corpse.
In the battlefield...well I won't give out all my secrets to infil's.

In the battlefield you just have to flick it on every now and then. That's what I used to do. I don't do it so much anymore because I also play the infil role and I know how incredibly frustrating it is to play.

On the battlefield, 3rd person DL is it. It sucks, and most people do it, you have to go about your business assuming everybody is doing it.

Playing a cloaker, i have come to kill ALOT of cloakers. Red october has exactly the right idea. Even on characters that do not have DL, i still kill alot of them. You learn to spot shimmers and not quite right areas of graphics. Its become so i start looking for them EVERYWHERE in PS, as well as other games. In other games with the invis upgrade or ability, i own up as most people dont know what to look for and i do. Basicall yim saying that even if you do not have DL, you can still find and stop infils fairly well. This doesnt go for the really good players, but for the mass majority who just get the cert cause its cool and invis. Ill be honest, for the first couple weeks i had that cert, that was the reasona nd i played it totally the wrong way. But now i know, and to quote the great "and knowing is half the battle."

I can't believe they are making them MORE visable when hacking and such.

"I can't believe they are making them MORE visable when hacking and such."
I heard that. Considering how often I shoot the empty air thinking that there might be a cloaker there, I can safely say that the player-base is aware of the presence of cloakers and doesn't need any visual aids.

Err, they aren't. That's the point of my post. Spork has clarified that the 'more visible' bit in the dev notes will not impact hacking/healing/repairing. At this point the only thing it is impacting is using a Laze, as currently that does not increase your visibility at all except for the blue beam coming out. After the fix if you use a Laze you will become as visible as you currently are when healing/hacking/etc.
