View Full Version : Why do they never cry for support nerfs?

They always cry for Heavy Assault nerfs, and not always in vain.
Why is there never a patch in which medics or combat engineers are pushing the envelope? Why are support personnel the chumps who never make the leaderboard and who never get the girl?
It seems like no coincedence that those who strive for the biggest guns are those who can claim the ultimate glory. Give me a soldier who will expose his spine and skull to enemy fire for the glory of retrieving a wounded soldier and I will give you the epitome of human evolution.
God bless the human who will sacrifice his or her one and only life for the greater good. This is the human that will lie at rest under the setting sun for all time, content that he or she has served the greater good.
Amen.
edit: I feel a hot wind on my shoulder. I'm on a Mexican radio. I'm on a Mexican - woah oh - radio.

I agree we need a leaderboard for the support guys. (most rezzed or something) I know I would like to be on it (Adv medic and Engineer)
I think you will find most leaderboard players have support certs. They just don't sit on their ass all day repairing tanks when the repair station is doing a faster job anyway. I have always had adv medic, because I find having an alive squad around me increases my effectiveness in combat. It has never stopped me from having a relatively high kill total.
True support personnel are a myth, just like true kill whores.

"True support personnel are a myth, just like true kill whores."
That is so cold. I have healed the tanks of complete strangers so often that while I was dishing out nanites, I was wondering what a power-gamer would think of a soldier like myself who spent his time crouched and repairing instead of crouched in front of a spawn tube or spamming jumps under Surge while firing Heavy Assault rounds.
God bless support troops. You will only understand this when your fibula is protruding from your skin and pain-killers are all that separates you from an infant that has been awake far too long.
God bless the support personnel.

Um, all BDMJ was saying was that higher level players are both assault and support, and the people dedicated to nothing but support are all but non-existent. People definitely do support, but they do many other things as well.

Well since i hit BR20, i have been playin a somewhat unique "class" called adv Medic, engineer cloaker. I can have my squad and complete strangers back up WAY behind enemy lines. The enemy will fight and probably kill some of the squad, but given a few minutes i will have them back up. My inventory currently consists of a shotgun pistol, box of ammo (grumble at the ammo pass, perhaps its time to switch to the amp it seems) med aplicator with a refill , and engir personal repair kit. I have gotten quite alot of surprised tell from friendlies that are totaly ammazaed that i have adv medic ina cloaker. Then when i repair them its just to much to comprehend. I havent been woried about XP or kills for quite some time. So now that i can actually give back to the NC of emerald, i do: by healing and reping anyone that will stand still. I think its quite fun and i can only guess at how frusterating it is to the enemies who have to kill the same guy up to 8 times if im just goin with one other guy.
Im not saying this "class" is for everyone, but give it a try if you have the certs already. i guaruntee you will make a difference ina fight if you play it right.

You can't spend your whole day camping spawn tubes and milking Heavy Assault under Surge and still commend yourself as an all-around straight-shooter.
You're either crouching near spawn tubes and Surging with a Heavy Assault weapon or you are supporting your empire as an all-around guy.
Those with tens of thousands of kills no doubt have inversely few support actions to their credit. Can we prove this? No. The leaderboard is amazingly flawed when considering the actions of support personnel.
Do support personnel deserve your respect? Only if you are sentient enough to realize that an operative vehicle or equipment terminal may have been destroyed shortly before your visit.
Long live the engineers and medics!

True support personnel are a myth, just like true kill whores.
Dunno. I have spent entire play sessions doing nothing but keeping my mine fields, Spitfire Turret Nets and Motion Sensor Nets current or useful; making ANT runs; or Doing multiple AMS runs and dieing repatedly until I find that sweet spot for my AMS (you know that AMS that slips in unoticed and turns the tide of the battle :D ) or simply repairing Phalanx Turrets and watching others jump in for the kills. To me, it is not so much the exp but the empire and will do whatever I am able to further the battle for my team. As a side note, I NEVER leave my AMS unattended and always mine the shit outta the area around it, then I just sit in my AMS with the external view on Audio Amp on and flicker my DL occationally and those nasty bastards that get too close eat MCG or Strikers should they manage to navigae my mine field. I further found out that an AMS is the Perfect SL vehicle, command your squad from a cloaked vehicle. :groovy:
CE is a source of many kills. It is most definitely not support.

You can say that again. You don't know how many times infil spitfire runners have got me done in.

True support personnel are a myth, just like true kill whores.
god what a ignorant fool, I know people in my outfit who epitomize both of those
the most famous killwhore is godjoey
there are no famous support personal because nobody pays attention to them and they never produce any explosions or huge lists of killspam (except when the gal full of people flies low through a minefield :p )
Because every empire has the support weapons but, then guns that everyone complains about are usually empire specific ones.
god what a ignorant fool
Thanks for skipping the argument and going straight for the ad hominem attacks.
With 23 cert points there is nearly no way to make an effective character that doesn't have a support cert. At some point in time, everyone has to support the team in order to be successful. This is not quake, no one can take on the enemy alone and win. If there are support personnel, then everyone is one.

Though people may not know the support dudes name, they sure thank you when the rest of there squad leaves them for dead and you res them. Its typically a thankless job repping turrets and the like, but take on the combat medic role ad you will be praised by your squad and others, i promise.
