You can mix and match, but make sure you have the right RAM (like if you have 2700 don't go wasting your money on a 3200+ stick).

How can I find this out?
Edit: would that be bad?

You could try matching it in your BIOS, thats the easiest way I can think of without downloading anything.
Names Base FSB Speed DDR RAM Speed
PC-1600 or DDR-200 - 100MHz - 200 MHz
PC-2100 or DDR-266 - 133MHz - 266 MHz
PC-2400 or DDR-300 - 150MHz - 300 MHz
PC-2700 or DDR-333 - 166MHz - 333 MHz
PC-3200 or DDR-400 - 200MHz - 400 MHz
If you buy PC-3200 and you have PC-2700 RAM, the PC-3200 will only run at 2700, thus wasting your money on better RAM, which isn't actually running any better than the cheaper 2700 stick.

Just enter your setup upon startup, before windows loads.

Depends on what system you have. Just restart your comp and it usually says something like "press * to enter setup" before windows loads. Its usually either del, f1, f2, or f5

nice, lol, but it will still only run at PC-2100 speeds. Can't beat the price :)
