View Full Version : What's your favorite movie scene?

I'm sure all of us can think of a movie that had a great scene in it, even if the movie itself wasn't so great. So here's a thread for you to post your favorite scenes. It can be your favorite for whatever reason: it made you gasp/hold your breath/cry/stare/clap/crap your pants, whatever.

So here are some of the ones that come to mind for now:

1. The opening scene in Apocalypse Now, with The Door's song, "The End" playing as the helicopters whirl across the screen. Classic scene, extremely well done. Another great part is when Kurtz yells, "We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write 'fuck' on their airplanes because it's obscene."

2. The opening scene in Star Wars: A New Hope. Another classic. I had never seen an Imperial Star Destroyer before watching the movie, so I was really impressed when it rumbled by the screen.

3. The cafeteria scene in Animal House, where John Bellucci stuffs his face with food, yells, "I'm a zit!" and spits his food everywhere. That's hilarious.

4. The ending of Blazing Saddles, where the actors chase each other off the set and into the set of other movies and around Hollywood. Completely random, but in a good way.

5. A Beautiful Mind has a very touching scene where John Nash's wife holds his hand to her heart. There are many good sequences in that movie, but this one comes to mind first.

6. As I mentioned in "The Coolest Dude" thread, I thought the Twins from The Matrix: Revolutions were awesome. That said, there was a part in the movie where one of the Twins phases out, the Cadillac SUV drives through him, and then he phases back in inside the vehicle. Whoa.

So that's what I have so far, what's yours?

In Pulp Fiction when Sammy reads from the bible before handing those guys their asses on a platter.

Oh, and the best line ever has to be either, "This is a tasty burger", or "May I have some of your tasty beverage to wash this down?". They are both from Pulp Fiction of course. The way Mr. Jackson reads these lines is so fucking cool.

Also, any of the big-battle scenes in any of the star wars movies. Those are the greatest. (Save episode I, that end battle just sucked nuts)

The scene in ROTK when they came up with the ships and Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn jump out. They look shocked and then smile till they see the ghosts.

When the rebel troops are bracing for imperial assault in the hall of the Tantive IV.

Top Gun's great quote, "That's a negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full."

When Al Pacino blows the assassin's brains out before he can blow up the little kids in Scarface. Most of the scenes in that movie really.

When the alien hisses at Ferro and she reaches for her piece. I can't blame the alien, though, she was a tender little dropship pilot. Also when the dropship blows up. That movie owned.

Well since all the good ones I can think of are taken I would have to say from the Blade movie in the begining when he firsts enter the vampire night club with the blood coming out of the ceiling. when all the vampires see and and back up. one of them saying "It's him the Daywalker" that just looked awesome.

EDIT:just remembered another one Bill Paxton's line in Aliens: "Just how the hell do I get out of this chicken shit outfit". and then the seargent. "Hudson look into my eye"

1) In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or "the Philosopher's Stone" for you UK kids), at the end when Dumbledore is awarding the final points, and Gryffindor is tied with Slytherin, then Dumbledore awards the points to Neville .... I get choked up every time (and I only wish I was kidding).

2) In Full Metal Jacket, when Joker is getting inverviewed, and they ask him why he enlisted in the Army, and he answers: "I wanted to meet stimulating and interesting people of an ancient culture, and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill." - with a smile on his face. And every other part of that movie.

3) In Love Actually at the end where Martine McCutcheon tackles Hugh Grant at the airport.

4) In Godfather, when Michael first meets Apolonia, then almost gets killed by her father, and when Apolonia's car blows up.

5) In Casino, where they beat the shit out of Joe Pesci and bury him alive.

6) In Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels when there's the ambush, and the four good guys come home to the bloody remains. Also all the fat jokes about Tom, and the last scene in the movie (the freeze-framed one).

Rushmore- The pool party at Bill Murray's house, as he is drinking and slowly taking in the shambles of his life. Murray should have won an Oscar for this scene alone. Funny and tragic all at once.

Miller's Crossing- Albert Finney avoiding the mob hit at his house and walking across his lawn in slippers and a robe firing his tommy gun as "Danny Boy" continues to play.

Immortal Beloved- Beethoven as a child floating on the water, being swallowed up by the universe as "Ode to Joy" plays.

Goodfellas- The tracking scene at the beginning as they introduce all of the mobsters without editing at all.

Raising Arizona- The entire Huggies scene, from when he steals them to when he pulls them out of the road.

True Romance- Christopher Walken questioning Dennis Hopper to try and find out where Clarence and Alabama have gone.

Glengarry Glen Ross- Alec Baldwin's contest speech. "Second prize? A set of steak knives..."

The Player- The extended tracking shot without edits happening while the studio executives discuss the fact that nobody ever does extended tracking shots without edits any more.

The Shawshank Redemption- The scene where Andy plays the record over the loudspeaker.

The Princess Bride- The battle of wits over the poisoned glass.

Hell, I could do this all day long.

Any scene involving Captain Jack Sparrow.

Any of the gunfight scenes from "The Way of the Gun"

Just about then entire movie "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust"

Pretty much any hand to hand scene from any of the Matrix Movies.

The lobby scene from the Matrix. This will forever be burned into my head as the coolest thing I have ever seen, simply because I had no idea it was coming. And actually, pretty much the whole first Matrix movie, since I saw it opening night and had no idea what it was about. Kinda wish I could see more movies like that.

The duel at the end of Episode I.

The duel at the end of Episode II.

There are more, but I think I should probably get back to work now :p

Well, in LOTR:Return of the king, the 6000 Spear Charge on Cavalry was freaking awesome. I think that the Oliphaunts in that movie are insane also. also the way they did the Beacon lighting across the mountains was insane as well....oh hell man that movie was freaking awesome altogether...

yes, it was said earlier, the baptist scene in the godfather was very good.

Boondock saints, where he jumps off the top of the building....he drops a toilet on one guy and then jumps on the other guy.

Requiem for a dream was a great movie. everytime they took a hit of the coke, they went through how the hit was taken, it was pretty insane.

i can't really remember any off the top of my head.

Silence of the Lambs- When the camera pans up to show what Lecter has done to the security guard's body.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas- Opening scene with the hitchhiker, "We can't stop here, this is bat country." That entire movie is burned into my brain.

Rat Race- The accidental Hitler scene.

Kill Bill- The first knife fight. The part that killed me was the explaining of how revenge worked to the little girl before she left the house.

Kikujiro- When Beat Takeshi's character boasts how great he can swim. The next time you see him he's floating face down on the water past the kid, completely limp.

The Italian Job, where they blow the armored truck right through the street. Very cool, never saw it coming.

Oh, and in Ocean's Eleven, after they steal all the casino's money and Rusty (one of the con men) calls the casino owner.

1. When Rave in Pearl Harbor gets shot down in Europe, i had the soroundsound all the way up watching that part and when he hit the water i was like omg. Notherpart is when Danny dies, 3 pops n 3 dots on the yellow vest thing.

2. In raiders of the lost ark when you first meet indiana jones in the beginning. Nother part when they are on the ship and whats her name flips the mirror and it smacks indiana across the face.

3. "I am your father."

4. When the long haired dude in Ep 1 gets stabbed.

5. In Sum of all Fears, when the guy starts singing at the football game and the nuke is inside the stadium, that whole scene got me jacked up.

6. MI2, when wats his name (haven't seen it in a while) leaves the building and the chick just injected the virus into her. Same with when the white bird flys by the blown door and then he walks by in the next scene.

7 LotR RotK, when they are fighting the elephant things and counter their kills. Then the elf guy kills the elephant thing and lands nice and neat on the ground, then the dwarf says they only count as 1! lol i laffed really hard.

8 In shriek when the donkey runs into Shrieks house jumps on the lazyboy n says "an tomorrow, I'm makin waffles!" Nother funny part.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Anakin and Obe Wan just save the Chancellor and the capital ship they are flying in takes heavy damage and is crashing into the planet below. The following dialog ensues:

Obe Wan: Can you fly a cruiser like this?

Anakin: You mean, "Do I know how to land what's left of this thing?"

Obe Wan: Well?

Anakin: Well, under the circumstances I'd say that the ability to pilot this thing is irrelevant. Strap you're selves in.

Anakin: Open all hatches. Extend all flaps and drag fins.

*The entire rear two thirds of the ship breaks off*

R2-D2: Uhhh ooo

Anakin: We lost something...

See, that's good humor right there. lol... It's one of my favorite scenes from the franchise.

K is this enough?

That was like reading through a story I wrote in first grade. Except this was painful.

Opening to LOTR Two Towers. Followed by Last March of the Ents.
When Forest Gump meets Forest.
BHD, the first KIA.
Bellflower, rape. Cynical, but the buildup to that scene was intense.

Can we add TV show scenes?
The last flashback from the episode Walkabout in Lost.
The final firefight in Rescue Me.....was like I was watching Backdraft or something.
Final pitch of the 2010 World Series.......

"The first lady is dead!"
"BUT THE DOG IS SAVED!"
I loved that movie. Pity I can't find hide nor hair of it these days much less a copy I can actually buy and put onto a DVD or something. I probably should email them.

Almost every single scene in the movie UHF.

Mostly, Conan the Librarian scene and the part where he is Rambo and he walks up to the soldier with the bow and they cut to see that the soldier is firing at him full auto from 3 feet away and still missing LOL.

Other than that.
Kill Bill: Crazy 88 fight.
Akira: Crazy milk toy scene in the hospital
Opening scene to Pineapple express lol.
