I prefer corsair, I saw a 5 to 10% increase in framerate on both machines when I switched them to corsair memory.

Get

Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT 2x512Mb DDR PC3200 CAS2 400Mhz with Platinum Heatsink

Or

Corsair TWINX1024-3200 Pro 2x512Mb DDR PC3200 CAS2 400Mhz

And if they make it

Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL Pro 2x512Mb DDR PC3200 CAS2 400Mhz

Platinum has better cooling than the blacks and the Pro is better still and has LED activity lights.

Youl have to check the Pro for CAS latency, but i think the 2x512 is still CAS 2

Prices:

Corsair:

Kingston:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-20 3200 1gig CAS 2/ 2-3-2-6 255$

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-50 3200 2gig CAS 3/ 3-3-3 928$

I dont know which is better. But having the same numbers doesnt mean there equal. Ive heard Corsair is faster at the same speeds. Not to mention they have a much better selection.

Kingston, not only is it cheaper, there is almost no difference (From what I've seen over all) between the two. Even if there is it would be minimal.

Heres a comparison of the 2: http://www.bjorn3d.com/_preview.php?articleID=236 (sorry I couldn't find anything more recent.)

They are basically even straight across the board.

Dont trust norwegiens to computer related matters. :P~

And those are all the new chips. They all have higher latency because they havent refined them yet. Or arent going to. Thoes are the speeds of the crappy CL2 versions of hte corsair stuff they just started releasing. I think the earlier stuff is a bit better, and bigger difference. Not buy some massive amount though. But i could be wrong.

Anandtech.com, hardocp.com, tomshardware.com and firingsquad.com all generally only use Corsair.

Why? Because they find it more reliable and see it perform on a higher level than all other memory.

Hey, it's not my decision. I wouldn't care if he bought K-Mart brand. I just wouldn't want to be the moron who spent over $100 more on something that isn't even much better. But whatever, I'll leave him to you then.

Its only a 40 dollar differnce between the LLPT and the kingston. If he got the regular LL Black stuff it would be even less.

NM the 3200LLPT and LL, Platinum and black, are the exact same price. If you go with the Corsair over the kingston though you should get the platinum since it wont cost you anymore.

I would get the one with the lowest timings of those two

You can't give me prices in american stores, won't do me any good since I live in Sweden.

Isn't much better maybe, but any little difference can be life or death where frames per second decide your ultimate victory through response times.

I don't really think the point is to get agitated as much as it is to show both sides, Kingston is very nice, has good timings and is a reliable brand. It is also generally cheaper than corsair. Its good to argue both sides because it gives the person buying a better feel that they went with an informed choice.
