Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft: I'm scared

MAN, everquest was addictive... It took me about a year to get off it :D ... but anyway, I think those two MMORPGS will be as addictive as everquest... which means that I wont have as much time to play planetside...

EQ2 looks (as in purely graphics) way better. However, I don't doubt it'll be the same old same old and bring nothing new to MMORPGs. However I think the same of WoW. At least with UX:O they're not doing the click, stand, wait for person to die combat. You actually click to defend and attack, so it's not just lame semi turn based. Which is nice.

I doubt I'll be getting either, since I'm playing FFXI now, but both look very good.

A note about turn based stand and wait: I think it would be cool if you had at least two attacks that you pushed different buttons to do. Also ranged attack would be cool ifyou actually could aim. Then again this would be very tough to implement, but it would be cool no doubt.

Now that I have a g/f. I've decided it would be best I didn't start playing these mmorpgs. Plus im actually keeping up with school now, and I can't afford to get sucked into these games and watch my grades and social skills go down the shitter.

There's not a whole lot left to be original with in MMORPGs, hell in the world of PC gaming in general, at least until another major technological breakthrough. A lot of minor improvments on things that already exit in various games would probably be more accurate and guess what? EQ 2 will most likely have just as many minor improvments.

In either case, debating it at this point is kind of stupid, since no one here has played either. You can watch trailers, drool over screenshots and moon over the awesome features until your brain shuts down entirely, but I think Planetside has taught all of us that promises from Developers are just that: promises, which are often far from reality. ;)

I agree. One looks like a cartoon version of Warcraft 3, the other looks like a next gen MMORPG. Of course judging any game on graphics is a lot like having sex with a blender: It takes a real fucking moron to do it.

The moral of the story? The intelligent thing to d would be to wait until you've played the games or at least at a bare minimum talked with a person who has who's opinion you trust ;)

I see one game trying for a realistic look and another game doing a highly stylized look. I don't see how you can compare one as "better" than the other. You might have a personal preference but that's just opinion.

Thats what I was about to say. While EQ2 looks more realistic, I like the vibe that WoW graphics put off alot more. So colorfull and vivid. Besides, Blizzard has yet to disapoint me, while soe cannot boast the same track record...

WoW is polished and awaiting stress-testing. Blizzard is famous for releasing quality projects. They haven't rushed WoW and it will make all the difference. It also has awesome graphics, as well as a great environmental feel.

Besides, graphics are secondary to good game balance. Look at SW:G. Garbage.

Umm, no it's not. It's awaiting closed beta testing, and last I heard confirmation e-mails had yet to even go out for that, although I don't know if that holds true anymore as it's been awhile since I heard that. It's too early to tell if they've rushed it or not. The graphics are not awesome. Halflife 2 has awesome graphics. I'll give you that the graphics are decent/good, but they far from anything special. However, I'm of the firm belief that graphics should never be a selling point. As far as the enviromental feel goes, you have no idea about the "enviromental feel" of the game because you haven't played it yet.

Look people, all I'm saying is don't judge the book by it's cover. Do yourself a favor and prepare for the worst. If it turns out to be the best game ever: Great! But if you build up your expectations and you're probably going to be very let down at launch. Not because the game will suck, judging by Blizzards track record I htink it's safe to say it probably won't suck, but because there are going to be issues at launch. There are always issues at launch. Now, yes, you can say "Well duhhhh! I know there will be issues! I know that, dumbass!". Yeah, thing thing is lots of people have said that and then spent the month after the launch of their formerly beloved shiney new MMO game bitching and complaining about the game on the internet instead of enjoying what the game does, in fact, have going for it. All I'm saying is: Don't fall into that trap ;)

In either case I'm going to do the only intelligent thing, cross my fingers for beta and failing that buy it and give it a shot. If it's really good I'll play it. If it holds nothing for me over various other games, then I'll cancel and add it to the $50 coaster collection I have going.

Now, EQ 2 I know I'll be playing for a few reasons. My computer is a beast atm so I know it'll be able to handle it, many people I've known for years will most likely be playing it and probably most important because I can do so for no extra fee at all :lol:

1. Could you please show where I said it wouldn't have an "open" beta?

2. Open beta doesn't always mean open beta. Planetside had an open beta, and if you remember correctly, you still had to be approved to get in ;)

I have played the alpha and the world does pull you into it. My only ojection was the lack of enviromental sounds. And ill go get the links for the open beta.

WC3TFT looks cartoonish, but that doesn't interfere one iota in its being one of the most beloved and successful video games in the history of humanity.

EQ2 has the physics engine and character modelling from TEH FUTAR. The beauty of WoW is that it is approaching launch. EverQuest 2 will not launch for a very long time.

Besides, I've heard from nameless sources that WoW is polished and refined to a level that previous MMO games cannot imagine. I can't expound further, for reasons that might or might not be related to Non-Disclosure Agreements.

You'll just have to imagine for yourself whether Blizzard can release a game that kicks ass. Chances are you are smart enough to realize that Blizzard has mountains of money and oodles of talent. If not, might I recommend a compelling game of solitaire?

I can't wait for WoW, but all in all im really not sure how it will turn out. It could really suck. I think that EQ2 may be very good, considering the stats and skills shouldnt be much different from the original EQ, and many people loved EQ. So Verant already knows what to do to make people love it whereas blizzard is new in rpgs and is being a bit experimental. I still have faith in WoW.

BTW: The 1st Fist Of Light will destroy you all.
