Will it be possible to be nuetral in PS? I think it would be fun to be able to shoot down people from all three empires. The neutral clans would be great as mercinaries(spelling?). They would, of course, have to have some disadvantages too, like only being able to use common pool weapons or something. Otherwise, everyone would want to be neutral.
Thoughts?

No it's not an option. Teamwork is very crucial in this game.

Well, it's an idea for an expansion

that is quite possibly the worst idea in the history of planetside.

except for the fact that you could spend your whole time relaying info to a certain faction, ruining the point of the game.

No, the worst idea in the history of PS, was some dingus on the official forums asking the devs to build the game so it could intentionally be hacked:)
Anyway, I think the idea of mercenaries was originally an idea for PS, but it was scrapped because it was just simply not necessary. Like apartments, economy, and all that jazz.
Don't worry about it too much though Tolvy. You got 2 empires trying to kill ya. There will be plenty of people to shoot at:D

exactly, they could be spies.
though, considering their position, many of them probly wouldnt give up their info without some sort of price

The only way those type of soldiers would work if there was an economy.

yeah, besides, all 3 sides would crush any little meager nueatral force, and oh, nuetral doesnt mean you shoot any one, nuetral means peaceful, you mean you wanted to be a suiside bomber??

RabidPlatypus please stop trolling, I will not warn you again.
Neutral or Merc empire would be cool. To be able to go where ever and do what ever would be very cool but it would also require a lot of careful planing to limit the possibilities of making it a bad thing.

I wasn't "trolling" I told him the truth, it IS quite possibly one of the worst ideas in the history of planetside.

Heh, not really. It's an idea the devs thought of a little I'm sure. There were talks of mercanaries I think but it wasn't implemented because of the same reason there's no economy and things like that.

I think it might not work as well at this point because of that lack of an economy. No economy means no easy way to reward mercenary outfits for services performed. I suppose empire specific weapons would be a good reward, but that still wouldn't be that great of an incentive. With an economy, mercenaries would rock, but without it they're just not as viable of an option.

It wouldn't work well, and from a TR standpoint, it wouldn't make sense. Not only that, but who would play them? Only access to common pool weapons and vehicles is boring, and limiting (there is no common pool heavy tank or heavy buggy). You'd have far too little manpower to ever stand up to one of the actual Factions. The second you attack the base, you'd be under attack by 10 times your number, and you wouldn't stand a chance. No, Mercenaries wouldn't work in PS. Everyone is either a loyalist or one of the two traitor Factions.

Mercenarys wouldn't have to stand up to the faction. They would work with them. The limited man-power and weaponry would encourage them to work with the empires. The Mercs are not supposed to be an empire.
Anyways, while it could hypotheticly be a decent addition to the game, it will not be an addition to the game. Maybe the next MMOFPS, eh?

I don't think there's any plans for more MMOFPSes and PS took a couple years to make. You'd be waiting a long time and if the FPS wasn't set in an area where mercenaries made sense say bye to that. I don't really see what the appeal of being one is.

You really think the average player will not gun down Mercenaries when they see them? It's an MMOFPS, and they're perfectly legal kills.

If I had extra ammo, I would probably Kill On Site any mercenaries unless I specifically knew why they were in my personal space. :D
It's just too risky to let them get the drop on you.

Mercs do not belong to Republic, if you're not part of the Republic you are a traitor. The penatly for treason is death. I'd gun down anny so called "merc" or die trying to.

Not a fan of this idea for some reason. Maybe because I like the dichotomy and seperation of the factions as it is. I think in this game that strict distinction is necessary and
fence-sitters/mercenaries or neutrals don't really help all that much except as spoilers it seems.
I can see where I would like it in another game but not one were the distinctions are already so defined. I think the "Us vs Them" is very necessary.

I also dont like this idea because it adds a "grey area". i like the Us vs. Them i deal, i would really like to think that these guys "Might" be my enemy. id gun them all down just in case.
