Help. No PS at school

I'm at my school where we have a wireless network. But the school blocks me from playing online games so I can't play Planetside.
Any Ideas on what to do?

It's not like your missing out on anything.Just be glad u saved yourself a hundred bucks or so including the monthly payments.Spend that on alcohol,hotties and some cigars.Thats 1000000x better then PS.

Thats what i play PS on ....my laptop. It wont let me leech bandwidth tho cuz it wont even let me get on in the first place.

Nuttin you can do... The block is at their routers and firewall.

If it was something not overly bandwidth or latency intensive you could use an SSL VPN to tunnel the traffic to an offsite proxy, but online gaming certainly needs copious bandwidth and miniscule latency.

It's not an easy school. Its one of the hardest academic schools in my state. I'm just here after school waiting till jazz band and felt like playing.

Huh? The school is blocking all ports except the legitimate ones... 80, 21, 443... So the ones for gaming up in the free-for-all range are blocked.

What I do is use an SSL VPN that encapulsates everything in a plain-jane SSL packet, wing that back to my server at home which then translates that. So no mater what firewall I am behind, as long as they allow SSL (which everyone does) I can run anything I want, just sometimes a little bit slow.

my school is cool. i didnt do ANY work Friday :) and got away with it, because they didnt give me work! first 2 periods i didnt get issued any, 3rd we saw a movie, 4th they let us out early for a dance and got the rest of the day off.
the only time i really do any work is 4th hour Pre-Algebra. and my school lets us bring any kind of electronics we want :D plus, the school itself lends out Dell laptops with wireless internet!! this school r0x0rz :P oh, btw looks like you wont be playing Planetside anytime soon at school. borrow the laptop and have it on in ur bag installing? dunno, crazy idea but oh well i g2g

There quite a few work arounds to beat this system, but many of them require lots of work on your part and some knowledge of the existing systems.

Squick's recommendation would work to some degree, but if your school was using VXR routers, they could easily Identify your packets and shut you down. Depending on how large your school is, would depend on what type of security measure they have in place. Most likely they are just blocking ports, and that is it.

IN my opinion, just wait til you get home, if you are waiting after jazz band read a book, expand your knowledge, learn new things. If you really want to play Planetside start learning how networks function and operate, get some books and maybe set up a server at home. Just make SURE you lock the server down before opening it up, I can't seem to preach that enough.
