I am going to diagree with a lot of my fellow TR brethren on the Pounder suckage now ( I have an alt character with Uni-MAX, yes I am a glutton for punishment I actually have 3 TR Characters on Emerald) . I find the Pounder to be the better of the 3 empire AV MAX's. Am I smoking crack or drunk? Nope, I have found the usefulness of a Pounder and find it to be a wonderful thing. I love the slight arc of the Pounder. Find a little elevation (a hill for those in Rio Linda) and rain death from above into a valley, base CY, etc. the range is beautiful. The Pounder is the new death spam machine for the TR (replacing the soon to be nerfed burster) and the beauty of it is it does more damage to grunts and vehicles than the Burster. In one day I managed to kill quite a few Lightnings, a couple Magriders, a Vangaurd, a couple Flails and even one dumb Reaver jock that was missle spamming someone else. It is good to be the Pounder these days.

Its decent, but in a close range fight it just doesnt cut as well as the other empire maxes.

Half the AV Maxes end up killing themselves in a close range fight in my experience.

As far as AV MAXs go, the Pounder is solid when anchored. Close range indirect fire exchanges with a flail are a must for every Pounder user

This is why the Pounder wasn't very good in its AI role. It could decimate infantry but they tended to be on your team as much as the oppositions, and infantry often learned just to run up to you as you'd end up hurting yourself as much as them. Was even better if you are a burster as the flak doesn't arm at point blank ranges.
But it's nice to see people saying good things about the MAXs for a change :)
Using a MAX is really hard now since everyone has a decimator and their AV weapon. It's really rare to find someone without the AV cert. So if you could actually use the pounder .

The Pounder is decent now a days but it seems that nobody has the cert at all.
Maybe this will change once the Burster is nerfed and is not longer able to spam.

What doesn't? The pounder or the burster?

The Real problem with the Pounder is that the Devs tried to make a an AV MAX. But lets face it people AV MAXs are Anti-MAX MAXs. With the pounder blast damage and it's high TTK most other MAXs would win unless it's locked down and then it's the perfect target for Deci's. Thats the problem with the pounder (and the other TR MAXs for that matter) they have to be locked down to be on Par with other MAXs. there should be an incentive (higher damage output then other MAXS even higher ROF) for locking down not a necessity all TR MAXs have a High TTK when unlocked and a TTK on Par when locked with no added bonus.

I know, i noticed this too. Id be spamming one guy like 30 feet away, and even though the blasts were right next to him it didn't do any damage. It's either buggy or splash damage vs. infantry is terrible.

Don't forget, TR maxes are also dead meat to VS/NC long range AV. Both the pheonix and lancer can kill a TR max quickly if they expose themselves above a base for too long. The only way you can get elevation and pound away on a base, is if there are no AV running around in the base, or if you have a team of dedicated engineers/medics to keep you alive. However, you notice the VS and NC maxes can do it without worry? That's because our AV won't get them at range (lock bug), so they are free to sit on the hillside and spam all they want.

Let's not forget, locked maxes are a perfect target for a cloaker with an ace
1 HE mine = dead max :\

TR really need a new max ability that uses capacitator without immobilizing themselves.
I paralyze myself before I go into combat! It increases my chances of survival!

Actually I can pound a base from outside the Pheonix range and do so pretty effectively. Do not forget the Pounder round has only a slight arc now when fired and allows for ALOT more range in it's newer incarnation. The Lancer is a much different beast though and harder to defeat but, you can still use the slight arc to shoot over a grade and out of LOS and defeat the Lancer, it is just more difficult to find you elevation to target. I was standing on a hillside pounding a base CY the other night at a range of 500 meters + and next thing you know there are 4 more Pounders next to me doing the same thing and anything in that CY was either suppressed, not in the CY ( inside the base) or dead. The suppresion fire of a line of Pounders at range was an imppressive thing to see.

Nah I love the MAX anchor ability.
It just needs the offensive capability to match what it's lost in defensive maneuverability. If that makes any sense  :)
