I wish I had $500 dollars burning a hole inn my pocket now. Check out this device. Its the thing that ambulances and police enforcement agencies use to switch traffic lights to green so they can get to where they need to go faster. This sight is selling them to consumers for $500. Now I am not claiming that they are entirely legal, but what the hell. :p

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I saw a small article about it in wired magazine. That gives it some credibility

I know theres one that cops have to turn the light red, and I know you can get that (probably illegally) so maybe they can make one that does the opposite.

It does, at least in some towns. Some towns don't have the smart lights, mine does though. :)
Anywho, I'm pretty sure you can make one yourself for a hell of a lot less then 500. All it does is replicate the frequency of the flashing lights on the cops light bar, find that frequency, and its all pie after that.
Saw a special somewhere that showed a guy who made one out of a mag-light, he even showed it in action.

those are the old ones, now newer lights are instaled with broadcast IR devices, just like this one, they arent in all cities, but in larger metropolitan areas they are, and they actually do market them to the public because of private security industry, but the dealer has to trust u will use it for what u say u are, and u have to have proof...but yes, they do actually work

Such a small percentage of traffic lights have this ability. I work for a planning dept. and I don't require they use those "smart lights". In fact "smart light" isn't correct, that refers to those lights where it knows you are making a Left turn and the light goes on for you, but sometimes it doesn't. There are magnetic loops in the ground, but I digress. It's IR or shortwave freq. that alerts the light that you are comming. The full cycle of the light has to go through too... yellow, red all way, then green. That is upward of 5 - 7 seconds depending.
Bottom line is the one time you would use this late at night there would be a cop on a side street and see something fishy and your ass is grass....

I heard about those, they transmit a O F N Frequency into the OLD FUCKING NEWSreceiver

Never heard of it so no O F N to me. Nobody in my family heard of it so no O F N to them. My buddies at work never heard of it so no O F N to them.
It only works on lights that have special adapters so probably won't work at all. That would make life much easier in rush hour though.
To everyone who says each post is O F N - GET OUTSIDE AND FEEL WHAT THE SUNSHINE IS LIKE. PUT DOWN THE MOUSPAD.

I am all for them making it illegal for private citizens to own these devices. You get enough dumb f&^% using these devices and traffic will become more screwed up than it already is at rush hour.

That's nice, but no one else seems to think its O F N, and if they do, they probably don't care.

Some people are just Born-Assholes. I like them. The world needs more, to counter all this love and cheer. Smiling happy people holding hands, they scare me...
they work. my brother had a gig for a short time doing some electronics work for the county. I begged him to bring me one or at least lay out the design and freq for the strobe. he wouldnt, although its a pretty basic concept. the strobe frequency is the key to the whole thing. they dont work for all traffic lights. mostly just the ones in main intersections where the traffic could interfere with emergency responses.
eh...I think I'd do better with just a radar detector.

You'd do better with a radar jammer.

old traffic lights would use the wavelength of the Spotlight on the cop car/Ambulance/Fire Truck, but they figured out that whenever they sold an old cop car to a citizen, that was a potential abuse of the system, now most are controled by radio, or the IR...around here ALL of them are IR
