You cannot perform more than one search every 45 seconds. This is pointless. If you try to search for something, but you need to modify your query, you'll have to wait. Remove the timer completely. It won't hurt.

I sign.

No, someone could set up some weird ass program to contiously search, and slow down the site major.

That wont happen. If it does put the timer back.

I can see 1024's point, but I don't think it would hurt to cut it down a bit. I have noticed, however, that other vBulletin-run forums I've visited use the same 45-second timer on searches. So this might be out of Hamma's hands.

Wouldn't it be the same if someone set it to continuosly go through every thread over and over?

You can't do that, i think. You would have to point it a URL. Every thread has a sep URL.

I have no idea what i'm talking about. I'm no programmer.

Searching taxes the database severely. Not to mention, it opens up he opportunity for someone to spam search the site. The 45 second delay is in there for a reason, maybe a reduce in the amount of time between searches?

yeah, 10 seconds or something wouldn't hurt

Is actually having to wait 45 seconds really that big of a deal for you guys?

It's 45 seconds. SECONDS. Say it to yourself a few times. Is that 45 second wait really cutting that much time out of your busy schedule?

DB Searches are very taxing on the server and DB. It's also a great way to take a site down if you spam the search. Therefore the timer will stay where it is, if i had anohter option i would turn it off, but I dont :p
