Give it some chaft and jammer guided missiles. At leased it will have a chance to fly away to erm..fly another day?.... ^^;

I'm gonna take off, yes and no.
I'm gonna miss the dropzone
I'm gonna keep this thing up
I'm gonna hotdrop my squadmates now
I'll guess I'll fly, another day.....
Couldn't help it :(

Equipment terminal (when landed) or the ability to airdrop trunk supplies to troops.

could let passengers get a bottomside view of the gal like liberator bomber so they can see precisely where they will land when they drop

One word....Lodestar
Lodestar is best for tanks or Sunderers, and if you are using a Sunderer, why get a Lode anyway...
The 75mms would be nice, but being able to carry a Del would make it much nicer than it is now...
I like the Gal, but why do the devs insist on making it such a pain to want to use...

As a long time Gal pliot I say.......Leave it alone damn it!!!!!
The Gal is fine the way it is.
Its big and slow and can take......emm some punishment. :D
the only thing i would change on the Gal is the speed and maybe the fire power.

ok, the gal needs to have medical bombs that can land and "deploy" to heal 200 health to friendlys within ____ distance, and after that 200 is spent, or the bomb is destroyed by enemys, the bomb disapears.
how does that sound?
ps the bombs would be very limited and drop like 1 every 10 seconds.

Sounds like something Advanced Medics need... not gals.

Unfortunatly it's too big at the moment. Perhaps when they do this update that allows them to change the world without large patches they'll add more dropship sized vehicle pads.

I am a firm believer that the only thing a gal should be dropping is troops, not troop carriers. However, I did think of something that help hotdrops from a gal greatly.
Give the gal the ability to pepper the dropzone with emp grenades. Gal flies in, pilot hits trigger, emps drop, count to three, troops drop. Safe drop zones regardless of the CR rank of the occupants. Gal could do it 2-3 times before they would have to reload the trunk with grenades.

You'd then be able to use the GAL as a minesweeper. I'm sure CEs everywhere would be dancing with joy. :)

You can use the Galaxy as a minesweeper now...I would drop off your passengers first though. ;)
As far as the effectiveness of the Galaxy, it is the best point to point transport in the game. It might not be bristling with firepower, or have an AMS built into the fuselage, or carry a Scorpion tank (oops, wrong game), but it does its job quite well.

I like the idea of an equip terminal when landed. Lends more to the idea that the Gal is a troop transport/support vehicle, and the Lodestar is a vehicle transport/support vehicle. Currently the Lode repairs vehicles, so the Gal should rearm troops. Makes perfect sense.
Also, I recall hearing at the "Ask the Devs" interview Spork or Smoke saying something about a future Gal configuration with tons of ammo and BIG GUNS. I think they said that it was being considered for a post-BR20 advancement or skill.

Far from it, the Gal is much too slow to be anything more than a vehicle of appearances, most everyone just uses their private jets (Skeeters), or has entirely different kinds of vehicles...
The Galaxy is too similar to the C-130 to not have the best parts of it in my opinion, which is cargo...
Now everyone seems to think that is what a Lodestar is for, but since Im not calling for Vans to be dropped out the ass of a Gal, that argument is stupid...
The Deliverer is an awesome vehicle, and the Gal is a potentially awesome transport, put them together and lots of new things will be possible...

When are are they doing this then? And once this is implemented what could they do to PS? redesign the bases?

For serious assaults, you need heavy infantry and MAXes, not agiles. I understand that some playstyles are different, but Rexo is the way to go.
The buggies are a great alternative - depending on your empire, you should be able to stuff 14-15 players in one transport. Buggies aren't as effective as tanks, but they can bring enough firepower to bear against light targets (Enforcers and Marauders are especially good at suppression; don't have much experience with Threshers).
I like the Deliverer as well (it feels like a big buggy, and it's lethal), but it fills a different niche which doesn't really depend on being dropped from a plane.

It just seems like a logical choice to me...
Load up the Del and Gal, load Del into Gal, take off and head for Wele, drop Del in the waters to the north, take Gal to the west and then south and approach the backdoor, and the Del crew hits the tower, to maximize surprise...
It just seems like the logical thing for a Del and Gal to be doing...

To tell you the truth, the Lodestar should of just been available to TR and NC, I mean Vanu don't really need it. Unless we are really desperate or need a good Mosquito & Reaver Bait.
They should of given the Vanu something alittle different, something with anti-gravity technology....

I don't see why the Vanu shouldn't need a lodestar.... unless they never fight on Ceryshen :D
I still think that a deliverer/galaxy combo is a little overpowering. That's a lot of troops it can carry.

Only 2 more than a TR Gal can carry now...and only 3 more than the NC and VS...

I think it would be cool if they just upped the speed of the gal by 30%, and changed the physics of all aircraft, so that you could spin around as much as you want, and even do loops. Of course this would prompt every one to get a really good joystick, but thats all better I say...
Lartnev
2004-04-03, 03:48 PM
Joystick support in PS is pathetic at the moment.
And advanced flight physics are one of the things that the devs are thinking about for post-BR20 features.
And I'm still not convinced the deliverer in the back of the galaxy is necessary let alone make it "truely useful."

"And advanced flight physics are one of the things that the devs are thinking about for post-BR20 features."
Are you serious? They have talked about giving post BR20 guys advanced flight physics? Man, thats awesome...I just think that the way those planes fly is kinda lacking right now...but the way your character hops in is sweet, luv the animation there :D
Lartnev
2004-04-03, 07:18 PM
Yes it was one of the first things Smoke let slip about what they were considering for post BR20 features.
I dunno about the "they suck" bit because I think the way it's done now makes it really easy to control using the mouse (and evil to control with a joystick). So it has its upsides.
SurrealBeingXX
2004-04-03, 09:21 PM
well ok, they dont suck i agree, but they seem a little dumbed down...I mean they completely restrict the movement of the aircraft, u cant even turn all the way sideways, or nose dive!! thats what makes me mad..
Baneblade
2004-04-03, 09:49 PM
That is because the flight model is that of a helicopter...

If nothing else the Gal should have a supercruise option, like a permanent afterburner, but not able to maneuver while doing it...

LUDICROUS SPEED!

yea that would be cool..considering the burners dont make it go that much faster after all

Let It Carry 2 More MAXes!!!
SurrealBeingXX
2004-04-03, 11:06 PM
yea that would probably add a nice punch....but if it could go faster..that would be sweet too
Baneblade
2004-04-03, 11:38 PM
Ah yes, MAXes, to be honest I would trade the entire vehicle bay for 4 more MAX bays and 2 more passengers...
Maybe even add two more guns: a nose 20mm and a Del style 20mm on the top...
SurrealBeingXX
2004-04-03, 11:46 PM
naw u cant replace the vehic spots..those are priceless man..
Lartnev
2004-04-04, 11:02 AM
Yeah the gal is still the most efficient ANT transport :)
I wouldn't mind a bit more speed on the old bird :D
