Woot was popularized in everquest, where it was purportedly slang for "wonderful loot."

however, in the '80s, it was a known expression of excitement/enthusiasm in the in hacker circles; some theorize that it related to gaining root access.

going back much further, though, woot was a common old-english word meaning "knows" My cours, that hath so wyde for to turne, hath moore power than woot any man.

now you know.

Out of all the leet words I've always hated woot the most. It sounds like an orangutan mating call.

Always sounded like a train whistle to me, but as woot seems to be fading, and woo is making it's way in, we are at a major turing point in history.

When I first saw that used, back a few games ago, I thought it was like that dance music thing, I used to flame people when they said that, saying either:

A:This isn't a dance chat room.
B:You're not an owl, sit down and shut up.

In the last portion of the last act in Hamlet, Hamlet goes on this tangent about something....All I remember is that he says "w00t" five or six times, followed by "Eat a crocodile"

I got that line. I am a happy boy.
