Mom just put a deposit on a 92 Blue civic. It has a lot of miles - 160k, but Civics do run till like 300..
Interior really clean, looks like new. Only 3 problems that I saw, all of which were minor:
-Loudness/virbration when accelerating quickly
-Drivers seat rocks slightly-hes gonna fix that
-left back lock dosent work with the auto lock thing - dosent really matter because I will only be having my 2 brothers in the car..wont be using that door.
Runs great, ect ect.
Auto, 4 doors
     Mom
Ill get some pics in here when she can grab a certified check and finish the deal, tommorow or tuesday at the very latested.

i never had one but honestly its the best first car to get a kid. good gas milage, can take one helluva beating, and when they wreck it your not out much. :)
I mean most of us want bad ass cars but honestly, to put it in PS, terms do you want some newbie driving an ANT or a Vanguard / Mag-Mower? i think the choice is obvious ;)

You know what you should do! Go get a million dollars from somewhere and buy an amazingly cool car. Thats what I would do, the plan is flawless... dare I say perfect?

 nice.
just go around asking someone to give you a million dollars. someone is bound to say yes eventually.
I dont even think you can buy a car over 100k if youre under 18 because of High-Risk insurance. my dad has that on his aston martin so I cant drive it yet. :(

welll you can drive it if you want, but if you wreck it insurance will pay for nothing. and if you get in a fender bender with a ferrari, thats an easy 20k right off the bat.

Honda's are just more reliable.
My parents have owned something like 4 hondas, which had like 2 minor problems between the 4, and 2 fords, both of which kept fucking themselfs up.

yea I'm with the fuck imports crowd. but every car I've owned (ford, Mercury, Chevy) has had thier share of problems. my chevy just turned 102,000 and it runs like a dream, granted it leaks a little oil probally from the valve seals, but thats chevy's trademark. I ran that mercury to the ground (good ol cougar with the 5.0) literally the engine fell out. and the ford, well I did what should be done to all fords, I smashed it into a few trees. :D
and of course my neighbor has an old honda with like 250,000 miles on it and its just now ready to crap out.
but yea they're nowhere near as bad as these ricers make it out to be. oh unless you buy a dodge ;)

2004-04-08, 02:01 PM
I'm saving up for a car, I found a '91 Civic (I'm with the import crowd, they just have a better track record) for about $1150, 97k miles on it and not a spec of rust! There are a few things on it that need to be fixed, but they're all small (the windshield wipers need replacing and the brake pedal sticks a bit.) But a mechanic I have here said he could do the brakes for $100 so I figure it ain't a huge deal. Hamma if you are that lucky with fords then I envy you. My mom drives an explorer and it craps out quite often.

Being a mechanic, (I know I'm pulling that card out again, bleh) I find most of my work on imports mainly little jobs (oil changes trans fluid so on so forth) but if you got something big go honestly your fucked, because in most cases import parts are EXTREMELY expensive mainly due to the fact the for most nessecary parts you have to order from the dealer and the screw you over all the time.
I got a 1989 Thunderbird SC with over 281,000 miles (It's my traveling car not my local truck which is Ford F-250 Superduty Diesel good for hauling things and great on gas milage for a truck) I've had to put $1,000 dollars worth of part into my T-bird recently a new rear axle and a new computer along with an Air conditioner, besides that the car is a bear, runs great it's fast and handles like a dream. If I got a domestic that the owner brings in every 3000 miles for tune-ups it will last as long.
Here is a buying tip for older used cars:When buying an older car make sure it has a good number of miles on it. Don't go out and buy a 92' Ford probe with 57,000 miles on it. Because most likely it was owned by and old lady that drove it slow and only local not on the highway, Highway miles are nice miles not as stop and go as local (unless you drive it during the rush hour then you are an idiot) So most likely your younger personality will want to put the throttle to the floor a little and eventually that will lead to a blown headgasket (trust me I've seen it before with this kind of car) so if you buy and older car make sure it's got at leat 87,000 miles on it.
oh and for most imports look at the door jab or other manufacture stickers most of them are made by domestic companies.
