Well I was reading a book about B-24 Pilots and I have found the origins of the Liberator, its basically a World War II bomber, and the pilots did call the Liberator the Lib similar to Planetside. Alot of you probably knew this already but its still kinda cool. Since I have found out what alot of Planetside Vehicles and Weapons were based off of. Here is a picture of the Real Liberator:

The Lib in Planetside is far diffrent in concept and in design from the real world the Liberator was a mammoth and hard to move and it was a carpet and cluster bomber and had the biggest bomb payload of the war. Similar to Planetside it does carry lots of ordinance and can take alot of damage as it did in the real war.

Just thought you guys would find that interesting, ill see what else I can dig up about Planetside Vehicles.

Why does that look like a Lancaster Bomber?

Look at the tail section, elevator wing is above the empennage of the b24 while the lancastor's elevator wing assembly is in the midsection of the lancastor's empennage. Also the cockpit windows are a different arrangment.

The lib and the lancaster are so similar that there easy to get missed up. I thought it was the lancaster too at first. :groovy:

If the devs got the idea of the liberator from the real life liberator then did they get the idea of the Vangaurd tank from the Vangaurd Satillite?

Easy way to tell the diff between a lancaster and a lib is that the lancasters fuselage is a lot taller and shaped like a squashed oval. It also has a tail gunner that looks like the guy could be standing in it and a bubble top forward firing turret with dual .303s just like the lib but its all glass.

PS: The Lancaster carried the biggest bomb load of the European conflict. The B29 carried the largest load in the war.

The Lib in PS only resembles the Lib IRL in the fact that they are both bombers...

Other than that, I dont see how the IRL Lib is the basis of the PS Lib...

I think it's more of a conceptual similarity rather than a cosmetic similarity. That's really interesting bio, nice pictures too. So did they model the mosquito after the prehistoric mosquito's that supposedly had 8-foot wing spans? :)

My thought is that the name is similar, and that the B-24 was very strong and it could take alot of damage (just like in Planetside, provided you have a tail gunner.) And Also they are very similar in concept.

I seem to remember liberators being used in an anti-submarine role as well due to their very long range. Am I thinking of the right aircraft? :)
