Seriously, Publishers Its time for DVD, Alot of Computers have DVD-Drives now, Stop Making the DVD a Special Edition. DVDs Should have gone mainstream in PC Gaming LONG ago. Make the DVD the Primary Edition. Far Cry is 5 CDs and UT2004 is 6, this is way to much. Look at the minimum system requirements for both:

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (included on disc)
DVD-ROM: 4x DVD
Hard Drive Space: 4 GB

UT2004

Operating System: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP

Memory: 128 MB RAM minimum (256 MB recommended)
Hard Disk Space: 5.5 GB free

Sound: Windows-compatible sound card. NVIDIA nForce(tm) or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio
DirectX: DirectX version 8.1(included)or higher

If you have the power to run these games you should have a DVD Drive. My Point is if you Game fits on more than 3 CDs, Please Put it on DVD. It saves money, does anyone have any evidence to argue against it?

STFU.

I have the ability to run BOTH those games, and I dont have a DVD drive. Why? Because eMachines SUCK.

Keep CD's around until we start playing music on DVD's.

Music DVDs have been around for 4 years, just no one buys them.

I agree, games should really be starting to come out on DVDs. It's simply a waste to have 5 or 6 CDs just for a single game.

I don't own a DVD player. My parents refuse to buy one. I'd probably have one though if I didn't spend all my money on getting my computer upgraded.

I agree, but I also think they should offer both. I don't have a DVD drive, but my home-built computer has enough power to play both of those games... very well, I might add.

DVD roms are quite cheap now. I managed to pick up a DVD/CD-RW for only $60 Canadian

only $60 Canadian
Holy shit. Isn't $60 Canadian like $1.25 US?

I agree with Strygun: they should offer both. The stupid thing about all of this, however, is that they do offer games like Far Cry on DVD, but only in Europe. Wtf? You'd think that Americans would offer a greater market for games on DVD than Europe.

They should offer them in DVD and CD.

Games should be downloaded, no more disks at all. No disks/cases to manufacture = cheaper games.

What about the single player community? Think 56kers will want to download games? I think that would be good in a few more years.

Yeah, plus it's always good to have backups on a peice of physical storage. Plus if they were downloadable, the company still has to pay for all the bandwidth. Also what happens if the company goes out of business or something, then it would be hard to find the files for the game online, unless you were, dare I say it, Juarezing.

im confused is bio saying they should put games onto dvds to use less discs?

or is he saying that we need dvd roms and that theyre better for gaming?

dvd roms have been around for a long time, the only thing that i'm worried about is the speed, its fine for running movies but for games i dunno

it doesnt actually run the game off the DVD itself

and yes, i agree, games should be put on DVD and CD in case a person doesnt have a DVD player-i myself have a CD drive and a fast DVD drive that i dont even use for DVDs :\
