Medicinal marijuana advocate Grant Krieger's troubles with the law became a family affair with the arrest of his wife and son Wednesday.

Mounties in Saskatchewan arrested Marie and Ryan Krieger following a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current.

Grant Krieger said the two were on their way to Regina and Saskatoon, where they were going to deliver about $5,400 worth of marijuana bud and oil to chronically-ill patients.

They were pulled over because their Chevrolet Caprice's rear licence plate, which flips down when the gas tank is being filled, wasn't flipped back up after a fuel stop.

"The ( officers ) came up and smelled pot in the car, and that's the story," Grant Krieger said from his Calgary home Wednesday night.

"You try to help people out, and this is what happens."

Marie, 50, and Ryan, 21, have each been charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and each were remanded in custody on $2,000 bail after appearing in a Swift Current court. The case was set over until May 3.

Grant Krieger, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, has a long history of challenging Canada's pot laws in the name of providing pain relief, but an RCMP spokesman said the Calgarian's cause is of little relevance to officers in the field who come across marijuana.

"Investigators felt there was enough evidence to support the charge. Now we'll leave it up to the court," Cpl. Brian Jones said.

Thats alot of pot. Im not sure what the laws are in Saskatchewan but in Ontario your only allowed 30 grams or less of pot on you.

Sure they did it out of the kindness of their hearts. But let the doctors deal with the medical marjuana, and not a bunch of stoner hippies who want to fuck the government and legalize pot.

marijuana, cocaine, even heroine can be legally perscribed by medically qualified personal. Every drug that is known is useful, against some form of medical problems. All that is harmful is the amount used, that could cause dangerous side-effects.

I think Gohan is just against drugs used in recreational application.
But if that's the case you have to take away Caffeine, paracetamols, nicotine, and many more too...... :rolleyes:

seriously, If the Goverment would regulate pot like it does booze, this country would be better for it.

we really dont need to go into detail here but explain to me how its legal to be an alcoholic( because we all know how wonderful they are.) but its not legal to be a pothead. and lets face it stoned people are a helluva lot more mellow than drunks..

you know i was watching a interesting show on pot, history channel, turns out, it was first outlawed because certain states didnt want exess population imigrating in, IE mexicans, and their major cash crop was pot, well these states lobbied for it to be illegal, and made up a bunch of propraganda, including many misconseptions people belive to this day, they outlawed it by saying, you need a pot stamp to buy sell or grow pot, and the only way to get the stamp is to have the pot in hand when you apply, but see, thats a catch 22. it was later overturned, and then pot was out right banned, america sucks at times. texas included :(
