View Full Version : Terrain effects?

Anyone else think that maybe CERTAIN terrain can be "altered"? Such as: a battalion rises over a mountain, a near-by base sends out its artillery and waits for the battalion to reach the mid-point of the mountain, the tanks open fire on the mountain then they watch as thier enemy is enveloped in snow. I think that would be a VERY cool effect in the game, maybe a few others like setting off a volcano (if any volcanic island type places) or something like that. Share your opinions on this, I'm interested in seeing how people would react to this :groovy::dance:

They said terrain was not alter-able meaning you can't break walls, destroy trees, make craters, Etc. I don't think people could be covered in snow either. I don't knwo exactly what you mean but do you mean they hide under snow and ambush the tanks?

Oh well...just wishfull thinking:( . And I meant that when the snow fell on the soldiers, they'd be crushed by the snow like an avalaunch.

It's definately a cool idea. For mech assault on the xbox I remember you could destroy a ice glacier as a mech went under it and it'd crush them. I don't think we are going to see anything remotely similar to this; however I think in a few months it could be a possible via a patch. As far as destroying trees and large solid objects-I think not.
I hope that dirt and snow fly when an explosive weapon hits them at least.
I'm really looking forward to the weather effects-This is an EXTREMELY cool thing to put into a FPS. I drooled about the thought of planning an attack under the cover of night-but now we can go under the cover of various weather conditions like storms.....woooooow I had doubts about whether I was going to go with Planetside or SWG but now I'm convinced on Planetside(for now).

I think there has to be a minimum: like in CS; glass and vents, maybe a crate

The problem is that on a long enough timeline the terrain would all be laid to waste, leaving only a flat husk to fight on. Terrain deformation would almost certainly require periodic server resets.
