Those stats completely destroy those on the Radeon 9800XT and the Geforce 5950. The 16 pipelining is what really caught my eye tho and the 1100 mhz video ram is impressive also. Its about 70$ more then the 9800XT. Any thoughts on it?

And how much does the 9800XT cost?

You can get them off Alienware now but I think other manufacturers havent recieved them yet. The 9800XT runs round 450 - 500$, id say the 70$ more would be worth almost double the preformance. But then again im very power hungrey when it comes to computer gaming.

Yeah, but there aren't any games that could take advantage of that sort of power. Unless you're looking at a long term investment...

Well if you're willing to spend $450 - $500 I think that $70 is easily wthin your range if you want a card that'll last more than a year or two.

don't buy them save your money till they get cheaper. You don;t wanna be broke cause of a little card that is to uber to use on any game. Stuff gets better and better over time you just be wasting money on something that ia advanced by like a year or 2..

That sounds like a sweet card. However, I'll stick with a 128 ATI for now. Maybe if Planetside 2 comes out next year, I'll pick up the 256, lol.

Honestly I think the difference would be minimal on a game like planetside. Or any current game, for that matter. On a 128 you can get around 100 fps, +/- 25. With a 256, I couldn't see it improving much beyond that. And even if it was a ton more, after 100 fps does it really matter?

But it does sound sweet. Unfourtunately for me, I don't have $500 to spend on a vid card. :(

If history repeats itself this nvidia release will be anything but "uber"

What a waste of money it would be to get that card when PCI-Express will be coming out in few months anyways.

is there a pci version? because if there isnt, this card is pointless.

IF you mean normal PCI, you gotta be kidding, right?

There will be a PCI-Express version being released soon though.

read some reviews, in high-detail high-res and full filters it has over twice the performance of the 9800XT. it is definately a good card, but I would wait for the non ultra cause the non-ultra/pro always cost 200$ less and have a minor performance gap.

pci express is not worth the wait. you will be seeing AGP on most motherboards for a year after the PCI-E is out anyway, and after that all AGP cards will be old anyway.

want to know what games can max it out? try HALO for PC. on full filters, max detail and 1600x1200 it runs it at 30 FPS. the previous king, the R98XT can hardly do half.

it also has shaders 3.0 meaning that things are gonna look a hell of allot better when directx 9.0c is out. far cry is getting a patch to support those.

btw, all those numbers are from early drivers, they're only gonna go up.

I'm going to wait for the X800(name for the new radeon card) before i pass judgment, Also that card suck power liek no other card ever has, you can't run it with less than a 400w watt PSU, and its not supoed to have anything else on the 12volt rail except one fan. That basiclay means nobody here except those with barnd new brand name PSU's can use it.

Shader 3.0 isn't realy that much greater than the 2.0, and it will only work in barnd new games, hardly any even have ps2.0 stuff in them yet.

This year is the year for video cards, then new ones are goign to be such a huge leap over anything before them.

The amount of video memory realy doesnt atter, a 128meg 6800 could most liekey perform better than a 512/256 mb version becaue smlaller chips have better latencies, never factor the amount of video memory into the performance of the card unless its less than 128 (speed is realy all that matters)

nVidia can have all the stats in the world, but in real-use, ATI will still blow it out of the water. Im fairly certain that, by the numbers, there are one or two nVidia cards that outdo the 9800XT, but the 9800 simply pwnz0rz them when it comes to actual use.

Plus, I hate entrenched companies. Down with nVidia.

I use two 9800s jammed in a ISA slot. I rock.
