it just seems like the loadstar dosn't have many uses.

What about allowing it to carry 5-10 MAX's?

Definately'd help, could tack on an insta-repair for soldier's armor as well.

Seems like a decent idea to me.
The lodestar is so rarely used.
Maybe there could be a couple of MAX gunnery positions on it so they could actually fire their own weapons from it or alternatively just a large pair of turrets that a MAX can fit into.
One either side.
Other positions would be passenger only like the deliverer.

ok..maybe turrets are a bit too much.
Make the weaponry like the liberator tail guns but one either side then.
Just make em bigger to fit the mobile corned beef cans in em.
Lodestars move like flying slugs and if everyone knew they were full of MAXES they will be major targets for reavers so some sort of defence would be required.
MAX drops would probably unbalance the game too much if there were ten in it.
Five seems fairer.

6 maxs one in each of the bigger parts of the struts. Give it two tail gunners and room for a light vehicle. It is now an alternate version of the lodestar. Also the area inside the lodestar where vehicles go is now an adv med station.

The more I think about this the less I am liking it.

6 MAXES hotdropping onto a tower would pretty much mean you will win the tower don't you think?

Especially if you machinegun the turrets to buggery first.

actually not because a MAX, although powerfull, still can't heal or repair itself or hack anything. so without support they will lose. And if anyone defending has any sense they'll probably go for the support guys first.

Also, how can it be unbalanced if it's not empire specific?

I dunno,

I don't use the LS because it's one fugly geek ride. If chicks see me in that thing my bad boy image is lost and it's celibacy city for me!

I think if it looked like something other than a flying brick then a few more people might use it.

Seriously though... I like the MAX idea (holding 6) and think it should rearm/repair MAX units just like any other "vehicle".

I would just give the normal Lodestar six MAX slots and nothing more.

Shooting from the Lode would make it the top choice for suppressing air. I can see the death of air cav now as six AA MAXes (no matter which empire, but I think that the Starfire would be first in this role) set up in a Lode and orbit a facility, destroying every aircraft in sight. If they were able to reload...even worse.

Gunnery positions are also unnecessary - the ability to deliver large vehicles into combat (or, in this case, a half-squad of armored death machines) has to be tempered with fragility. Plus, support personnel could ride with the MAXes in the gun slots, bailing to EMP and hack for them, which makes the MAXes much more of a threat.

I think that those who want guns added to it are missing the point. All the aircraft are meant to support each other. You can't ask for a transport that handles like a skeeter, shoots like a reaver, carries max units, and transports heavy tanks all in one. It defeats the whole idea.

How about having it carry upto 6 maxes OR 2 light vehicles or 1 heavy vehicle. e.g. a harasser and a lightning or an ams/vanguard instead of just 1 of any vehicle. As for gunners there should only be 1 forward facing 20mm machine gun at most. We dont want anything more powerful than a galaxy because that is an apc, the lodestar is a vehicle transport. BTW the maxes cannot shoot.

I think it should carry 6 basilisks/ switchblades/ wraiths. *They're all tiny vehicles, and the lode is after all a vehicle carrier*. Only problem is... how the hell would you find SIX people with the ATV cert? :rolleyes:

Thinking about it. 6 MAXes dropping on a tower you would not win it. For a start, they cannot even hack the door. Heh. :p

Plus I like the idea that the Lodestar is defenseless. Air Cavalry is needed to defend it on its travels, makes a mission alot more interesting.
