It seems the infamous surge warp exploiter on Emerald "SGSwift" has been either perm banned or he deleted his character.

If SOE finally did something about him why wait until he got 71,000 cheap kills?

I personally never had trouble with him when I played on emerald, but I do know that SOE is very strict about needing a lot of evidence before banning someone, so I go ahead and agree with their decision regardless of what I have seen.

It was Swift and Prophet as far as I know. They were joined at the hip, so if there was one cheating it's a sure thing the other was as well. On Emerald I've only played NC for any amount of time, so I was never on the other end of it. It's near impossible to tell who on your team is cheating I've noticed, because all of your attention is focused on either enemies or squadmates. Anybody else is just kind of in the way.

All I'll say is:

1. He was the most warping surge monkey I've ever seen. If your opponent can't see you to shoot back you have a significant advantage. I hope that's not how you are defining "skill".

2. SOE will gather proof before taking a drastic measure like they did. With improved speedstep detection and alert CSR's Swift simply got busted. You don't get banned for being good.

I left other games (RTCW and BF1942) to come over to PS mainly because of hacking/cheating. PS does an excellent job of weeding out the cheaters and hackers... but falls short on nailing down glitch exploiters.

I've been FPS gaming online since '96 with Quake 1 and have been in all the leagues or repute... CAL, TWG, OGL, and others. I know a good player when I see one... and I know BS when I see it too...

I do not think swift/propeht/got5 cheated. Playing with them, playing against them, theywere good at what they did. Talking with them they did not seem like the type who would cheat.

Imagine you got banned one day for cheating and you know you didn't. How would you feel?

I feel bad for them, plus the list of things they allegedly did seems very similar to the current warping issues in the game engine.

Its little things, like strafing along the wall, turning surge on while strafing away that make you appear to be catapulting across other peoples screens that make people scream omg h4x!

All of this doesnt matter, thats terrific, no one gives two craps about SG and its loser warpers.

My only encounter with him ever was on Esamir after he mowed down me and 6 or 7 others using quad-shot (pre-fix). Only saw quick shimmers of blue and gold darting around from place to place.

yah i got killed by him once...i thought it was strange i was in a forest on eisamir and he was darting around behind all the trees extemly quickly...i thought it was surge but i had surge before and it was no where near that quick

Well, I will say there are people who whine when they get spanked and make unfounded accusations... I know I've been accused of cheating on many occasions.

I will also say that there are those who will cheat or use cheap exploits as often as possible to win. I've seen it before and it can ruin otherwise good games... just look at how bad BF1942 and Counter Strike got for a while there... It bacame rare to find actual legit players...

That is in part why I don't mind paying SOE a fee to play PS. Because I don't have to worry about:

1. Some punk public server admin kicking me because I owned him too many times.

2. 50% or more of the players on any given server using some kind of cheat or hack.

3. Rampent TKing with no system to stop it.

4. Hacker punks crashing the server because they got owned on the last several maps.

5. Rampent bug/glitch exploitation. (Like the Lieutenant's ability to rapid throw unlimited grenades in RTCW)

6. This list can go on and on....

Overall the CSR's do a good job of keeping this to a minimum. I've seen speedstep exploiters and surgewarp exploiters and the Flail guys who know exactly where to shoot tower walls to get the splash to hit the interior of the tower.

That's only 3 exploits... not real hacks like maphacks or aimbots or anything even more pathetic. And it seems that if you abuse any of these 3 too much you get your character deleted. GOOD.

Enforcing game rules and punishing exploiters is as effective as coding fixes for every one of them. You can exploit if you want to, but eventually there is a price to be paid. And SGSwift and the gang paid it. Excuse me for one min...

As was said above... SOE won't ban/delete without proof so in my eye that adds legitimacy to most of the /appeals against SG and others caught. You don't get your character deleted just because you are good.

SOE banned them because of some of the people in this thread, whining about how they died, like it was the most awful cheap thing ever. No, he is a better player then you, thats why you died. If you were both rexo, you would of died, if you were both surgile, you would of died. If your were both in reavers, you would of died. Even if you thing SGswift was cheap, how often did you really fight him? I almost never saw him in game, it could not of been so bad that it is really hurting your game.

I'm not sure about Prophet... I always thought he sucked and I almost always owned him. SGSwift was impossible to target due to massive warping so it was a matter of chance to beat him. Either I guessed his location enough times to land enough hits before he killed me or I died. I'm not the lucky type so I died more often than not.

It's one thing to be beaten as in your opponent out fought you... dodged better, aimed better, set a nice ambush, etc... but being "out warped" is not a test of skill or fair play. It's a "he who has the exploit wins" scenario.

SGSwift was a warping mofo on foot... VERY hard to target and take down. He was pretty good in his mossy too... on foot he killed me 4 out of every 5 times we met... in the air we were about even... though once I snuck him and got on his 6, we were both in mossys, I laid fire into him and he hit AB, I hit AB, and in 1 second he was a speck on my horizon.

Lag or BS? Maybe lag, it was a one time thing...

Check this FRAPS video of a "legit" TR on Markov... note the hyper fast Striker firing and that he can run in a rexo with a weapon equiped faster than an Agile with weapons holstered can surge...

After Prophet outran me on flat ground when I was surging in a cloak suit and swift did the same, it really wasnt even a discussion. Hell I got Prophet to admit to processor throttleing once. This isn't a discussion about noobs banning a good player from a public server. This is a multinational profit organization paying people who specialize in this sort of thing to investigate these cases. I never thought SGswift cheated, though he warped like a motherfucker, but if SOE says he does, along with so many players who have their stories about encounters with him, I will take SOE's word over that of SGswift's. I would like to know how they are positive, to see some proof, but all that does is allow canny programmers to design hacks which circumvent the current protection. People take the word of Punk Buster, just a program, that someone is cheating, what is it so different in this case? We all know there is anti-cheat protection inbuilt in PlanetSide, we don't know how it works. Same as Punk Buster. CSRs would also investigate the case thoroughly before making a decision.

Dreamer is superior to SGswift and probably the most constantly accused player in the game, yet he never got banned.

I don't think Sony would ban a player without sufficient evidence. Even if the anecdotal evidence here amounts to nothing, saying that Sony banned him because of player complaints isn't a particularly strong argument either.
