Well, based on your detailed explanation of the problem martyr, I have easily found the solution.
Seriously tho, "my computer's broke" doesnt give us much to go on :p
edit-
Speaking of which, my Windows XP is broke :( I'm running off of my Windows 98 boot right now. (I run a dual boot system). Has anyone heard of an problem where your speakers emit a very high pitched squeal right when Win XP starts up, and then the screen freezes? That's what is happening to me... never heard of a problem like this... It starts up fine in safe mode but I'm not really sure whats going on. The fact that the speakers squeal might mean it is a chipset or audio driver problem I'm guessing...

It is completely fucked. I will generously take it off your hands for a small labour fee.

He might be using someone else's computer.
So what happens when you press the power button? Nothing? Or does it boot up, then shut down again?
