Why not make the AMS two man and have a single gunner position on it.
In reality there is no bloody way that such an important vehicle would have no defensive measures except for squashing people.
Just a thought.

The invisibilty bubble (when it actually works right) is a strong defense.

disable guns while cloaked...only for defence while travelling

Thats not that much of a great idea, what kind of gun would it have? If its just a chain gun then its not going to be much of a defense, and if its a cannon well.. that's a little to much firepower for an AMS...

I think keeping the AMS gunless is a good thing. It goes back to the whole team-play issue. If you want a defense for your AMS, have a buddy get in a reaver/lightning/whatever. This game is about teamplay, not individual play!

No gun please, the AMS is getting reworked and is going to be much better when it does.

Oh, I see them quite often. They're usually the ones NOT lying in their own smoking debris. Besides, my point is this. By adding guns to AMSes, you only encourage people not to join up with a good squad and work as a team.

Just because ya dont have the coordination to wait for an escort/escort an AMS doesnt mean theres a flaw with the AMS itself.

AMS is worth two certs and is a portable spawn point, it's fine how it is

Quite a few. :D
Spitfire turrets are not good for AMS defense; a ring of spits will give away an AMS to air units.

ooh ohh i know
it should have a giant funnel on the front and when you hit/runover people they go through the funnel and into a storage tank that sprays them with acid and gives them standard armour. it then launches them out the back using a large boot. when they land they have only the stuff that fits in standard armor, and their health is 10

Agrreed, nothing pisses me off like watching someone else put spitfires around my AMS, now what we really need is a deployably flak turret.

So exactly what else beside's stealth and good location do you all use to defend them? I know mines, but what about anti cloakers who hack them and other dangers?
Doppler

Mines are good, motion sensors are good (only inside the bubble) the best defense against cloakers are just sheer manpower on the ground. The ideal defense for an AMS is a Skyguard with lots of ammo or an AA Max parked nearby. THe hardest thing to defend against is an orbital strike or a targeted flail strike. The best defense for ams is numbers, you can never really have too many AMS's following an assault force, or better yet leading it up.

The AMS is fine, leave it alone. If an Outfit, Squad, CR, etc. is too stupid to coordinate a little escort for it, then too bad. Can't tell you how many times I've passed an enemy AMS in the OPEN road in "Friendly Territory", by itself on a Basilisk or Wraith...gee guess what I'm going to do on chat?...on a basilisk....on a wraith...c'mon...THINK!
That doesn't say much for those who attempt to deploy in front of a the eyes of a bazillion enemies...gee guess what were going to do.
If going through dangerous territory...escort/off road/ or both. If its not dangerous...don't run up to the enemy tanks and foot soldiers with AV. Try to avoid them.

an AMS is better gunless, makes it so people have to work together. even though most of the time an AMS trying to find a good spot in an enemy SOI is like a squirrel running across a busy freeway.

Nah, its a neat idea. But its meant to be a poor handled, rickity thing. Its armors alright. But its bubble defence and its matrix panels etc make up for it. It is a highly essential vehicle in Planetside. Do not overpower it.
