Haha, great minds think alike.

When I clicked the link, I was hoping they'd have an option for a blue one.

Green and blue laser pointers are really difficult to make, especially blue ones. That's why they're so expensive (FYI).

explain.

If you look at the color spectrum, you'll notice that red is at the left, green is in the middle, and blue is to the right. Most of you know those positions mean that red light has the lowest energy, green light has the second highest, and blue light is the highest (though indigo and violet outstrip blue). Basically, to get a color higher than red, you have to add more energy, so green laser pointers are inherently more powerful (some have ranges of two miles). To get blue, you have to have a tremendous amount of power to excite the lighting mechanism. There are also some advanced materials involved in manufacturing said mechanism, though I couldn't explain that very well.

I want a laser cannon. Remind me to make it with an ultraviolet laser.

hard gamma rays are the best to use in said lazer cannon, highest energy of the spectrum, though that makes it a gamma cannon or something

I believe blue lasers are used in DVD players and the like... the shorter wavelength allows the beam to be tightened more, allowing it to read more compact data. Not completely sure about this (anyone wanna crack open a DVD and have a look?) but I read about it in a science article somewhere.

edit: after a bit of research (basically Google: blue laser) I've found that current DVDs use red lasers, but future HD-DVDs will have a blue laser, allowing 30GB of storage onto a disk (!!!). Theres an article about it Here. (http://news.com.com/2100-1041-5129320.html)

blue lasers are used to burn dvds recently... not a good choice for readers, though [yet].
