I have some money burning a hole in my pocket. I have decided to look into spending it on an Xbox. I can't decide if it is worth it though. My PS2 and GC sit on the shelves collecting dust because I never play them. I have become a PC only gamer. For some reason, games on those two systems have never grabbed me like a good PC game can. Probably the only reason an Xbox would be worth my money is because of Xbox live. The thought of built in voice in every game sounds so bad ass.

So here are my questions:
1. Would Xbox and Xbox live satisfy a PC gamer?
2. What games, online and offline would you recommend and why?
3. Is Xbox live worth the monthly fee?
4. Is built in voice as cool as it sounds on paper? Are tactics and other useful in game stuff discussed, or is it just used for people to talk about random unrelated shit?

Thank you for your help.

I dont think it is. Hookers and beer is a much better investment than an Xbox IMO. Besides, there are going to be new systems coming out around the bend real soon anyways.

If you're a hardcore PC gamer, I doubt a console will fulfill your gaming needs.

Buy it anyway, and if you hate it, sell it on eBay. Martyr and I only really use an XBox when Halo is involved.

I have an XBOX that I never use. Everything that is good on XBOX is better on PC. Anything that sucks on XBOX, wasn't even ported.

If you really want voice in any game, spend the money on a nice headset and download ventrilo. Voila, instant XBOX live, with all the functions of a PC.

Edit: Not to mention, no extra fees for PC.

The reason I like the voice in live is that everyone uses it. If you use teamspeak or ventrilo with a game only the people in your clan can talk to you. That is what makes lives voice so appealing.

Meh, do what you want, but 2 months after you buy it and realize it's worthless compared to your comp...don't come crying to me.

So here are my questions:
1. yes
2. it depends on what you like, but Rallisport challenge 1 and soon 2, Halo 1 and soon 2, Mech assault 1 and soon 2, Full Spectrum Warrior, pick up a good football game like ESPN or something, Prince of persia, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or alive 3, Colin McRae Rally 04, Crimson skies... hell there's a ton more just depends on what you want.
3. yes
4. its alright but every moron with a mouth uses it.

but after saying all that. dont go out and buy another console. go trade un your PS2 and or gamecube for it. save the money.

Yeah, i was planning to trade in at least my GC. I still want to keep my PS2 to play amplitude and GTA: San Andreas when it comes out.

As someone who hates the Xbox with a passion, I've considered buying one. No, not because of Halo or Halo 2 (FPS games do not ever belong on a console) but because of a few other games that greatly amuse me. Crimson Skies for instance. I get to fly around, steal other planes, shott things, and multiplayer is amusing as well.

That said, it's not worth what it costs to me. Personally the PS2 still has the largest amount of games I like to play and the Gamecube has some of my favorite games (mario party series (great for non gamers), Metroid prime andDouble Dash) and my favorite controller (<3 teh wavebird). Since I already have those (although my PS2 is dieing from lung cancer) and have a PC that can run any game that is out or coming out in the near future, I just can't justify the cash for a couple games that I love on a console I have an unrelenting unreasonable hatred for.

I really like my x-box, i still play halo all the time and since a friend has one i often have halo parties with the xboxs linked. Halo alone is worth an xbox if you ask me, i think halo 2 is going to shut down my pc for a month or so. I just recently sold my ps2 for CoH and to pay off my new paintball gun. Never had a GC because the only game that was even close to decent was SSBM but that has aged and halo has outlasted it.

I love my XBox and PS2. There are some ass-kickin games for both, and its definately worth having them. I can't really speak for XBox Live tho, I don't have it so I can't say whether its worth it or not. But games like Rainbow Six 3 and the like are definately worth havin on the XBox. The voice commands stuff doesnt always work, and it feels kinda silly yelling "Open Breach and Clear!" at your TV, but its fun. :)

Edit-I also agree with Heavygain... Halo is worth its weight in gold... and hasn't gotten old for me yet.

Also, hoping to someday get Steel Battalion... that game looks kickin'...

The only time I play Halo is like once maybe twice a month when I get 16 people, 4 Xboxes, 4 TV and we all play together. That is the only way I will play Halo. :) After playing like that playing single player or even 4 player on one TV just blows. But I love my Xboxes and PS2.

I don't need an xbox to play crimson skies, there's one down town that i can play-with motion seats!

But i'm getting an xbox. I would just buy a refurbished one, but at gamestop is says nothing about a free used game and I only got $132....so my mom would pay tax ahahahaha!

Beware of refurbished Xboxes. I bought one from EB cause we were short one for our Halo LAN but it would randomly shut off, something was makeing noise in it when you moved it around, and the disc try would grind when it open and closed. Basically what I'm saying is, people at stores like that don't what the hell they are doing. I believe Dhark had a same problem if I remember correctly. So just be careful.

PS2. if you're gonna have a console, have a PS2. it's a dedicated console. it's not some microsoft bullshit attempt at making a console into a PC. fuckers. god shat up microsoft.

Ok then i got some questions.

1. Would it be worth getting an Xbox for Ninja Gaiden, Halo etc.?
2. Or instead getting a PS2 for MGS3 and stuff?

oddfish

PS2.. and no, Dhark, i can't agree with that statement. then, it's quite clear you are not a fan of PS2 and never will be because your cewl dewd friends don't like it or something. i'm not gonna argue about which is better. PS2 has it's ups and downs, and XBOX has it's. Halo, yay, almost every PS2 title (ALMOST) yay!

MGS3 will be god. MGS2 is teh SUCKAY fuck Raiden, he's a little bitch.

The new Ninja Gaiden is completely worth the $180 you'd have to spend to get it. Most amazing game ever.

1. Would Xbox and Xbox live satisfy a PC gamer? Not a chance in hell
2. What games, online and offline would you recommend and why? The Xbox just doesnt compare to a PC in any way shape or form. Dont waste your money on it thinking its fun to play one on line.
3. Is Xbox live worth the monthly fee? No way in hell
4. Is built in voice as cool as it sounds on paper? Are tactics and other useful in game stuff discussed, or is it just used for people to talk about random unrelated shit? I found it annoying as hell but then again, I find voice in any game annoying as hell and a necessary evil.

That being said, if you have a bunch of money to blow, go for it. Personally, I would save the money for an uber PC video card. Sometimes its cool to have to play with friends that come over to your house. Games like Halo and Return of the King are a good example. Also it has some interesting single player titles that dont get PC releases. KOTOR was the perfect example (it became so insane popular they had to port it to PC but werent originally going to) Upcoming titles that look really good are B.C. and Fable. Remember though that you can rent games so dont buy any
