You ever play BF1942 on a 64 player server? Like that. Whatever you want to run that as well as possible.

well there's a difference between frame lag and connection lag.

as far as "power" like you are talking about, the min reqs are a 1Ghz processor, at least a geforce 2 with 64mb ram, and 512mb of system ram. they are trying to lower these as well. with alot of people on the screen, it may be useful to have a beefier machine so your framerate doesn't go to shit, but you can always turn the quality down if you need to.

as for connection lag, all i can say is that i pity the dialup-ers. i have no doubt that sony can bring the phat pipe, but you'll need broadband to use it effectively

I just hope that everything is setup well enough so that even if my cable connection is running slow today, I can still get a decent connection.

... or Cox could get their crap together and keep the area's connections working right... ugh....

I wouldn't worry about lag, they wouldn't have made the game if they didn't think they could fix lag problem, cause they can't sell a laggy game

"Power" lag as its been referred to in the past is usually referred to as "Drag" (Terms differ). "Lag" (Conn lagg) is usually called "LAg" or latency to be more specific. Thought i'd add the tid-bit for clarification

The problem isn't going to be latency.

The problem will be frame rate. But not from video.

BF1942 has a similiar problem. Many people (including me) with supped machines have experienced frame rate issues. These people had low pings. When the game is played with no sound, frame rate never drops. So, its not a video issue.

The problem is (and might be) sound. There are dozens of people around you. All of them will be doing something to make sound. Shooting, driving, walking, idle engines, etc... And our poor computers have to process all of this, and often have troubles (even the 2ghz). The problem can be fixed be lowering sound quality, but this is not the first thing people think about. Connection, video, who thinks of sound as a source of frame rate problems?

I am hoping EA made mistakes in their code. Mistakes SOE won't make.

That's why updating the drivers for your sound card and having a decent sound card will fix that. Those problems ere fixed a day after the release. Also set the sound channels down and take off EAX for sure unless you ahve a really really good sound card. Just get a SB Live and you'll be fine. They're cheap too.

I fixed the problem long ago.
My point is that it is not obvious what the problem is.
Also, I suspect (hope?) that their coding may be faulty.

BTW, I have a Augiby 2 and still have issues with high quality sound.

Processor may then be the problem. Heh, also, BF1942 was probably released with some really annoying things. Start typing a message and then you realise you need to do something so you press Esc...Nothing happens so you have to press backspace until the message is gone then press enter...I mean, come on, that's jsut sad.

Having played BF1942 and PS - PS ran much better.

IMO BF1942 has horrible netcode. :\

Heh.

And EAX is a huge CPU hog. I've got a Hefty System, and games that otherwise run smoothly can get chunky with EAX turned on. Dungeon Siege springs to mind.

one thing i truly hate is lag spikes. they bother me more then Nazi's (ok, maybe not). they're still annoying though.

Wanna trade? LOL...If you ran BF1942 on one comp and on a comp with the same specs with PS online would PS run better? If so, then I'll be happy as a clam.(BTW, we need a happy clam smiley)

I hope m,y 1 GHz can chug along for the ride. My video card is good enough easily but my processor may be a littled taxed. Although there's no frame rate lag noticeable enough on BF1942 or any game I've played.

I agree Sputty.
It seems that I have the minimum requirements. I am too broke to buy another computer what with the wife and kid constantly draining my gaming funds. Which is why I am so glad to see the whole resource thing. It isn't caus eI don't think that I can handle myself in a firefight, I am sure I can do as well as most of you (nontwitch gamers that is.) It is that my computer will be chugging like a freshman in college. So I get to do somehting that helps the teams and I get to see some action. All I will have to do is drive my ANT out of the Galaxy, to the silo, then run around for a bit.
Of course I will have the setings down as much as possible. But I will be running away from times when there are more then 30 people on my screen at one time.

Thanks for the info on the EAX though. I didn't think of it.
Good GOD! Marrow wind chugs occasionally... That is not a good sign.

E&B lagged for me aswell. Not comp either. Net lag..God I hate that game....But I really hope I can make the quality of hte grpahics at lest a little better than BF1942 with no major lag. I don't see whyuy not but it may just be other things that vcause lag like the vastness and whatever. WEll, if I really need to upgrade I can upt my planned upgrade a couple moths earlier but I wouldn't like to

They left out of the release notes a debug statement that was left in that lets you wallhack ;)

hmm... i had been getting like a steady 110-120 fps in t2, but recently it has just gone to crap, i'll have to flip off EAX and see if that helps.
