I was just playing and dropped into enemy territory via HART. I saw a TR standing there so I pull out my Decimator and shoot him in the face with it, then pull out my rocklet rifle and shoot him three times. He pulls out his MCG and waxes me in about .3298 milliseconds. A Decimator does half health to a Max and same to a mosquito, completely rocks Reavers (if they are sitting still) but I shoot a guy in a rexo suit and he gets barely a scratch. Makes plenty of sense to me!

its the rock papre scissors ballance we have, if you want AV weapons the kill people you go to play somethign like Soldner or RTCW:EE

By rock-paper-scissors he means that there are two types of damage- health and armor damage. The Decimator and Rocklet beat up armor, but do very little to health damage. I don't know why this was done. It's just there. I recommend taking an anti-armor and anti-health weapon.

Aztec is half right. There are two types of armor as well--the type that av weapons are effective against and the type that they are not. Decimators, empire av, and even reaver rockets only do the full force of their armor damage against hard targets (max and above). Armor damage on soft targets is calculated differently.

I hate pants, he implied that he shot the decimator once, and explicitly stated that he fired the rocklet rifle three times.

if it makes you feel any better you would have killed a MAX with that :)

Weapons that do damage to armor are designed to do damage to armor. Weapons that do damage to infantry are designed to do damage to infantry, and not much else. Unless you have AP ammo, which is designed to chip away at armor and not health. It's a wacked balance, but it works.

In real life if I drop an AT4 (real-life version of Decimator) at effective range, assuming I hit your ass, you'd be a puddle of piss and shit inside a pair of smoking boots. In real life I could also blow the tires on your ANT and then shoot you through the windshield. If you're gonna whine about game mechanics, whine about that first.

Deci does nothing to infantry, i laugh at people using decis on me. The rocklet takes a full clip to kill one rexo so only three shots isn't going to kill the guy, assuming hes in rexo.

In Planetside you need the right weapon for the right job. Using an Anti-vehicle weapon on an infantryman was a little silly don't you think? :)

To reply to most of you who said the same thing, I didn't know that it worked like that. I'm fresh off the trial, and I assumed a rocket launcher should hurt infantry men a little bit more than scratch them. It barely scratched his armor even. I was wondering why I would be in a base and shoot in the middle of a group of enemies with the Decimator and not hurt them... Now you all have enlightened me, and I'm going to sell that for heavy assault. =) Next time I see you E4rthQu4k3, it'll be with a Lasher.

Wouldn't you have encountered the deci v. infantry thing back during the trial?

I was defending the back door once in agile with a pulsar. I happened to kill a Rexo who fired two Deci shots at me. I sent him a /tell "Deci's don't do much damage to infantry. You should use your Cycler". He responded with "stfu dick" :(

Well the Lasher and Maelstrom are better for close quarters (in my admittedly short Vanu HA experience) with MA being a decent alternative combined with extra range :)

if I was shooting infantry with a decimator, I wouldnt whine about it. dont complain just because you pulled out the deci before the rocklet. I was confused back in beta where it sometimes took 4 pheonix missles to kill a Rexo. I kept thinking "if you got hit by a missle, wouldnt you die?"

again, this is a case of gameplay>realism.

heh i use phoenix against infantry sometimes, but only if im far away and i see there are no vehs or MAX around.

I only hit infantry with my Phoenix as a last resort, or it i fired a shot and i have no other targets to hit. It take 5 hits to kill a rexo so its very wastefull.

Yeah but a good Phx user can annoy snipers. Keep hittin em and the CoF keeps a bloomin and that makes the sniper relocate (possibly in dangerous territory) and take the time to heal again. I had someone successfully Deci me when I was an infil and it takes like 2 hits (the splash is what killed me). I couldnt repeater a rexo too fast and was very frustrated at this.

Generally Rockletts are good fer when ya have high ground as ya can just keep sendin follies to the enemy. The "unload all" is nice fer larger targets from med-short range. Its kinda easy to hit Personal Shield and unload all 6 into a Max and see him drop. Tis very satisfying to see ;)

P.S. is it just me or does everyone and their mother have decimators now?
