Technically my first multiplayer experience had to have been some games on my ColecoVision when I was a kid. What they were, I can't really remember.

First FPS multiplayer: Doom over a modem
First FPS multiplayer on the internet: Quake via Quakeworld.

Yup. 6 years old and damn good at it. Funny thing is I had better grammer/spelling than 40% of the people there, most of whom were in their teens-20s.

Yes, 6. That isn't a typo. It's not 16, seeing as I am 14.

MUDs.

For those of you that dont know, MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeons. It's basically a text based multiplayer(usually 10-50 people, which is a lot :o) rpg. Some of them were extremely well made, with everything from guilds, cities, massive numbers of equipement and classes(I mean tons, like 12 races and 20 classes, because since it's text, what does it matter as long as the coding is good). :)

Xwing vs Tie Fighter. Gamed with the Last Starfighter League for about 4 years. In that time I got to know a lot of other ppl. From XvT came Jedi Knight, then Balance of Power (introduced the B-Wing) then Star Wars Alliance.

Had mad fun running both an Alliance fighter wing (Blue Squadron) and an Imperial Fighter wing (Avenger Squadron). Achieved Grand Admiral status in the Imperial Navy and had my own "Super Star Destroyer", the SSD Reaver.

Doom of course... like all the old timers

Then DukeNukem 3d

Mani the game you were thinking of was Rise of the Triads... the best little FPS that never got enough play!

But the real Seal on the online MP for me was Diablo that me and 2 friends played every night for 1 hour (While watching DS9 in syndication) for about 8 months. It was awesome!
