ok, since these stupid political threads have shown up, theyve done nothing but harm the community in my opinion.
i say we ban em, plain and simple. this place is called the lounge, where we all get to relax and have a good time. instead we are getting at each others throats and forcing each other to actually think about politics *shudder*
so, ban em i say

feel free to post on your reasons for voting yes or no as well

I think it would be nice to have a sub-forum to talk about politics and religion. Or we could go some were else to talk about that stuff.

Had to vote no on this one. Most of the political (or religious) threads are obviously so from the title. If you don't want to take part, don't click on the thread to view it. If it isn't obvious, then just click out of the thread once you start reading and realize what it is. It's as simple as that. Take some responsibility for what you read and quit trying to shut other people up. (that's for whoever votes to ban them... unless it's Hamma... after all, this is his forum ;))

my reasoning is that political threads lead to alot of tension and eventual resentment towards other members of the community. if you want an example, go take a look at the circus the Desert Combat Mod for BF forums became after all the politics hit over at www.bf1942.com
i say we at least ban these threads in the lounge, because im getting pretty sick of em and the conflict they create, and i think alot of other people are too

And all I'm saying is don't read them. I could see if threads in the game discussion area were turning in political flamefest, but this is the lounge after all. If you see one that you know you aren't going to like, just don't read it. I've avoided several threads for that reason.

i have too, but youll see. ive seen it happen before. unless you put restrictions, the lounge will be overrun with political threads until it becomes a political battleground. ive seen it happen sooo many times, its sad.
<rant>
Make a specific forum if need be but "banning" political threads is both something Hamma wouldn't do and shouldn't do. Hamma as said many times he doesn't lock a thread because he doesn't like it and politics shouldn't be different. If people here can't talk about politics without turning it into a flame fest and hating each other than they shouldn't be part of PSU at all. PSU is or at least should be a place where mature and intelligent people come to talk about their favorite game, not another official forum kiddy gathering. :)

No subforum either, I brought this up with hamma, and got a firm NO. The problem isn't the forums, its
A) The guys who go in there just to piss off the serious people
B) The hotheads on both sides
C) The people who can't agree to disagree.
It all comes down to the immature people and the people who thing they are sooo mature. I've seen alot of people who apparently know everything about everything. Hell, I'm friends with half of them.

Hence why Hamma should trust in a certain person and give that person nazi powers. I...uhh that person could edit or delete the pots of said immature kids trying to piss off people. ;)

well, as long as it stays civil. right now its not a huge problem, but unless Hamma closely moniters them, it will grow to be one. i remember a time when u saw maybe one political thread a month here. now it seems they're going at a rate of 3 or 4 a week. all im saying is be careful, dont let the lounge be overrun

I actually already suggested this to him. There was no way in hell that was happening. I even suggested a triuphriate of people to admin that forum, one mid right, one mid left, and one canadian. Not a damn chance of that happening. It just needs to be reighned in. Some people have a one tract mind. Go here, politicalforums.net.

I am not so sure I believe that. I don't harbor any ill will towards anyone in the discussions and the goals of my posts are not to piss people off. I see the relationship between me and the people on the other side of the argument as a friendly rivalry. Who knows, I guess it is possible that there are some people who harbor ill will for me now, but I can live that. If ever I am offending any of you let me know because that is not my intent.
I know these discussion have gotten me readng articles and doing research that I normally wouldn't have.
Obviously some of these arguments aren't going to find a unified conclusion, but then it is in the realm of sharpening your skills inthe realm of logical argument. We usually get exhausting one issue and moving onto another one anyways.

Though I have lost my cool in a political tread B4.... I don't think they should be banned..... it is healthy as long as it stays civil. I'm really trying to work on that... b/c as someone said earlier... that some of us should agree to disagree. I think the flaming and trolling needs to be patrolled. I mean some people just come in and say things to piss ppl off like....we derserved 9-11.... and it just gets ppl roused and serves no purpose in continuing and meaningful although sometimes heated dialogue.

As I said yesterday I dont mind if there is some political talk here. The problem is it's getting out of hand, I've been watching it for a couple months now.
As long as it can remain civil, I will leave it be.
