View Full Version : [FIGHT] PSP vs DS

Which should win? PSP vs DS. I think PSP will dominate hardware wise, but I believe with nintendo pushing game boy, classic remakes, N64, and gamecube-ish titles onto the platform, that DS will be the system I will spend more time with. (But i'll probably buy both eventually).
Who wins?

Ya I saw a demo if its games at E3, impressive. But I like how I'll be still able to play all the game-boy games on it once it comes out, while with the PSP, I'll have to wait.

Ninetndo droped the ball a while ago.
PSP should be awesome, unless Sony seriously fucks up. Hopefully they'll have great games for it as well.

Hmmm, yes, nintendo sure did drop the ball a while ago. Can you image how different things would be if Nintendo went CD instead of cartrage, and designed a more practical controller with the N64? Square would surely have never left Nintendo and go to some company called "Sony" who wants to get in on all this. I wonder....

Yes PSP will rock. It sure beats the WISE course Nintendo is taking with their handhelds, with the "Dual Screen" GameBoy.
::Shakes his head sadly::
More screens != bettar.

The PlayStation Personal reportedly has the graphics of something between PS1 and PS2. It will be awesome, but probably expensive.

PSP will bitchpwn anything Nintendo makes... just because nobody trusts Nintendo after a certain incident we like to call GameCube. Plus the PSP will prolly have better games...
Infernus, GameCube isn't bad. At all. ;[ Sure a lot of their games are shitty, but some of them are the most kickass games ever. Wind Waker, SSBM (...I thought that was fun), and some other well known ones...
Anyway, I guess the PSP will own more. I mean, I haven't went through any research but I'm pretty sure the DS is just a GBA (not SP) with an extra screen. And we all know Nintendo is money hungry, I bet it'll be like 120$. But, PSP won't have any good games, I bet. I bet it'll be all bad platform games and sports games. I doubt they'll be any FPS's. If there are...damn, you can take a FPS anywhere.

Gamecube is coming out with better games than the PS2 is.
Resident Evil 4
Zelda in full graphics
Metroid 2
Starfox
Thats a list you can't compete with.

PSP is amazing for a handheld
PSP is a very large thing, but I normally carry these things in backpacks and suitcases anyway.

It has a big screen, but it's still not that big.
It's certainly no laptop, and I respect the fact that its size is attributable to the screen, but it remains a large device when placed alongside the GBA sp or even NeoGeo Pocket. Its a design risk they are willing to take, apparently--personally I wasn't a big fan of the half-assed attempts by companies to make pdas and game systems pocket sized. Those things never feel good in your pocket, you wind up carrying them in your bag, and the screen and controls are still tiny. I like the angle that sony is taking--people take these things on trips and immersion requries a larger screen.

no I'm not at E3, I wish I was. but I'm keeping a close eye on what is being shown. FFVII:AC is coming out for psp but also on DVD as it is a movie and NOT a game.
The graphics on the DS and PSP are very similar but the talk is that the DS stole the PSP's thunder cause of the DS's unique features: Touch screen gaming on lower screen, GBA backwards compatible, Two wireless protocols one a propretery nintendo one that allows up to 16 person multiplayer games at with a range of 100 feet. The second is Wi-Fi 802.11 allowing multiplayer gaming over the internet! how the latter is going to be executed is still under wraps though.
All in All nintendo stole the show.

PSP > DC.
While they both have their pros and cons, Im really MUCH more impressed with the PSP. Being able to watch videos, and listen to music on my PSP is a huge selling point for me.

While Im not one for megacorporations, Sony makes some good shit. They didnt become the #1 player in every conceivable electronics market cause of lame, uninnovative technology.

It's because they have good competition that drives sony to make some good products.
Competition is healthy, i dread to think if Nintendo dies....like Sega (Dreamcast is dead. LONG LIVE SEGA!)

Dreamcast was awesome.
Well, keep in mind that theres always MicroShaft in the game industry. And theyre not going to die anytime soon.
Even IF nintendo dies, Sony will still make good stuff. Then again, I havnt bought sony game-related stuff for a little over 6 months now.

I could understand the music part. But I don't understand why people want to watch movies on a screen soo small and spend 300 bucks on it. I can buy a 3 disc changing DVD player for the same price and get better quality. Not to mention the horrible glare you'll get on a handheld screen. So you'd only be able to watch movies indoor really. I'd rather being playing games on a handheld than watching movies on it.
And the DS has Voice activation and communication. Plus 16 players can play within 100 feet. That would make a bitchn' advance war game.

I have a feeling that the PSP will have wireless gaming as well.
I really dont need the music part either, because I have (and LOVE) my iRiver.
Videos is really for watching anime while on the road or wherever.
Id rather not have a touch screen, as theres no better way to get the screen dirty / scrathed. voice activation is a meh. dont see what it'd be used for.
Plus, the PSP is suposted to cost as much as a GBA SP does now. which is between 70 and 100

What's bad about the gamecube?
IMO it has better games than the PS2(Rogue Squadron II and III, Metroid Prime, Zelda: Windwaker[not as good as Ocarina, but still good, and the new Zelda game looks amazing], MSG:TS and a bunch of other games that bring back a nostalgic feel while remaining new), it's a more powerful console and it's cheaper.
Edit: The PSP is better though. The only way the Nintendo one could compete if something major was added, because it's just not as good generally, smaller screens, less starting titles from what I can tell(the Metroid looks good, but not as good as the Metal Gear game) and fewer uses such as music and movies. I'm not sure what they could do, other than it being like 5% the cost of the PSP, but until they do something the PSP wins.
