I'm not really looking forward to either of them. But the DS is definately a better system for gaming. The PSPs battery life is awful. Only 2.5 hours while playing games. And it's a lithium battery, so it's not like you can just take a pack of AAs with you on tha long car ride.
Plus, with 2 touch screens and it's use of slightly modified SD memory cards, the DS could double as a PDA. You could keep track of all your appointments, or homework, and play games in class, all on the same device. :D

I'm sure it will come with an attachment to plug into the cigarette lighter. for the long car rides or you will be able to plug it into the wall.
Neither I'm not really into hand-held "consoles".

That's not exactly what I would call portable though. And I'd bet you'll have to pay extra for an AC or car adapter. It is Sony after all.

Nintendo would pull the same deal. but most people will use it during times they can't use the full size console. (like on a car trip where you have access to a car adapter) Plus with the graphics I've seen I understand the power drain. And 2 and a half hours isn't a small amount of time. if you plan on using it during school it's most likely during a study hall period right? and they last about 45 minutes so you will still have 1 hour and 45 mintues left of play time.

Yeah, but the DS's expected battery life is over 20 hours, PSP is 2.

The PSP sounds like it will have better games. I am have always hated nintendo charcters and the games they are in. If they make Amplitude for the PSP, I am sold. I love that game.

Thats something I forgot to mention the battery life doesn't matter much in the end it will probably save you money (If the DS runs off of Alkaline batteries). it's the games that matter. not so much how they look but the game itself now Link while he was/is a cool charcter has been used far to much. Plus nintendo game charcters tend to be a little lax in the badass factor (about the only bad ass charcter they got is samus) While Sony has Dante from devil may cry and Solid snake from MGS (only 2 I can think of right now).

The DS uses lithium battiers, not alkaline.
And the whole "badass" character thing is really sad. It's a game. Good gameplay does not depend on weather or not the main character is a secret agent or hell spawn or some other lame cliche.

The DS will probly run off batterys, OR recharge. I know the Gameboy Advance SP recharges...
Also note, PSP is not a "Portable system" its a $400 lthing that plays games, but doesnt know what it wants to be. Kinda like an N-gage except instead of a phone it has better graphics. Also note, the analog stick. Right, ima put an ANALOG STICK in my pocket.

PSP, All the way!i would expect that there will be some changes to the PSP to make the battery life longer, ALOT LONGER
Also, Exano, Sony cut a few features(like built in BT, but it still is compatible) to make the system under $100... Some of you must read PSM more often YESH

Ahh your right. game play is what truely matters. but the charcter adds a feel to the game. It's kinda like how I compare FF VIII and FF X. In FFVIII Squall was a well trained special forces mercenary with some social issues. In FFX you were some punk ass sport star that bitched to much and had a whiny voice. thats what mainly killed FFX for me Tidus annoyed the hell out of me. While Squall was the cliche solider with personal problems with depending on other people. In the end the charcter makes or breaks the game for me. (Thats what RPG nuts do) The older games were awesome (Then again I was alot younger) but link is just boring to me now. now Dante is cool the guns the sword and way the game plays out.

My GP32 doesn't have an analogue stick, but it's the same sort of design as an analogue stick, it's been in my pocket many times and has never been broken.
In case you guys don't know wtf it is, it's a handheld from a company called gamepark, theres loads of good games on it, and lots of home made games (free) or emulators (free, follow the law kids, if you don't own the game, don't download the rom!), it plays DivX films and .mp3s as well, and takes smart media cards for data storage :)

Sony stopped making quality stuff around 98. All my old sony stuff still works like a charm, but everything I've bought recently will fuck up after about 6 months :(

I don't understand the PSP. I already have a DVD player and MP3 player. So why should I shovel out 400 bucks to buy a handheld when all im gonna use it for is playing games. I can pay 150 bucks and play games on the DS. Not to mention the dual touch screens and automatically letting me know when someone around me can play a game with me.

How lame. The touch screen is ok but the dual screen idea is complete shit.

well with the psp you can play movies but not DVD's you must buy your favorite movies over again on sony's UMD media that in itself means almost no one is gonna use it for movies. the PSP does have more established game types on the way for it but I think the DS is just too intriguing (I can't spell) to count out. one feature that I think kicks it up a notch above the PSP is Wireless, sure PSP has bluetooth but it can't connect 16 players at a range of 100 feet or use 802.11b networks for online play and chat. this way even if my freind aren't sold on it I'll have someone to play supermario 64x4 with.
