View Full Version : PlanetSide could benifit from a pistol/rifle hit feture

Like it says, Whacking someone in the back would be awsome in PS! (I'm thinking like Halo) I see close, in-your-face combat more and more and more and more do I see situations where a rifle whack would be perfect.

This wouldn't cause any strain on the server, it'd be the same amount of strain as firing your gun.

Well, I guess you have a point. I'll edit it. BTW, can anyone quote this in the OF? I cant seem to post there... (I'm not baninated)

Whilst whacking people with your handgun is a lot of fun in Call of Duty, I don't know if it would be worth transferring to Planetside.

I mean it's a lot of art assets to go into doing buttwhack (the gun butt damnit) animations and then you can't really give it much damage. I mean I know it's deadly and all, but you'd think weaponary like a miniture chainsaw would be more damaging.

I like this but I wish I could attach my Mag-Cutter onto the end of my Jackhammer instead of a rifle/handgun buttwhack.

Lartnev, have you ever played Halo? Its an extremely usefull feture in that and PlanetSide has the same style combat. So many times have I died to an emty magazine, times where a rifle butt in the head would kill my enemy.

No, to be honest most of us have felt that way in most FPS shooters, but in Planetside you'll never get a weapon powerful enough not to warrant just reloading :(

Whilst I do it all the time in Call of Duty (it's funny) I doubt it would be implemented due to the constraints of the amount of damage it would be able to do.

Why not just remove the knife? And this is alot quicker than having to pull it out. Well, maybe let infils keep it. As for damage, it could do maybe 25? Like the knife in primary.

No, If you have the enemy at 10 health when you run out, its faster to HIT them and kill them than reloading and firing.

Depends on the situation :)

Yeah that woudl be awsome, adding a Bayonetts to the MA Empire Weapons

And make it very fast a easy to do, hit 'f' to fix it/take it off, and e to use it very quick like

I say we fight and both run outta ammo at the same time and we both would die if we are hit by knife or gun. I would like to see who would win, you whipping out your knife or me just reloading. I wonder...

knives in Planetside currently are incredibly weak if the person see's you coming...even if they have an empty clip

Aye. That sounds like a real good idea. Reaching BR20 has nothing to show for it, apart from the cert point; of course. I think that you should achieve something more for all the hard battles you've fought through to get that far. Something as simple as this can be a great achievement for a BR20 Player.

I think if not naything else, a commande yelling "FIX BAYONETS" just before a wave of enemies reaches the spawns and everybody going crazy shooting and stabing. You should be able to stab and shoot at nearly the same times so you could use it as a damage boost up close were MA needs it most, i don't know how many times i would have survived using my guass if i had just done a couple more damage points

Maybe a slight tweak that would combine buttwhip and bayonet. On all armors above standard(includeing MAXes) the knife is mounted on the forearm and is retractable. When the use knife button is pressed(regardless of what/if any weapon is eqiped) the caracter sends out a quick jab with the knife extened that does current secondary knife damage(higher for MAXes, they need melee anyways).

The character cannot fire or reload any equiped weapon in the time it takes for the punch. The punch would act exactly like a knife with the exception of the weapon switch time(extend, punch, retract). This would allow use when support equipment such as med-ap is equiped as well as rifles.

Infils and Standard armor would retain current knife layout.

oooh ooh ! And make the bayonent have a mono-edge! meaning it can make a degree of damage on heavily armoured vehicles or MAXES!!

Imagine! a squad of post BR20 runinng into a room and unloading a magazine of ammo then a MAX jumps in, the squad fixes bayonents and charge the MAX! under a fury of slices and shots its dead!
Fear the veterans! ;)

Or more likely, MAX laughs as squad ends up bayonetting each other :D

It should be a merrit commendation for expertise in Knifing, it should be able to be on any rifle (that shoots bullets, not Phoenix Bayonetts)

nah i would say a MA comendation, not knife, as peopl ethat use MA are the ones that benifit nobody knifes with other armors

How about having the rifle-hit take a small bit of health but a chunk of stamina? Could be useful that way if it could potentially deactivate their implants and force them to walk. That would be pretty funny, actually.

For that matter, let's add kung fu.

I know kung fu.

I'd like to see some kind of poison/neurotoxin for infils, that they could put on knives, or possibly use a syringe, things like unable to run, cut stam in half, slowly drain health, 2x CoF, etc.

Why would a shotgun ever need a bayonet?

While on that matter, why would an assault rifle (medium assault weapons) need a bayonet?

As far as I can tell, the only weapons which truly benefit from a bayonet are Rifles, but as there are no true rifles in PlanetSide (Bolt driver is the only one), I can't see bayonets working too well.

Lartnev
2004-05-25, 08:14 PM
True, I've never seen a shotgun with a bayonet.

But assault rifles can mount bayonets, I know the SA-80 can.

I'll enter this fray with a single word: No.
Planetside is not about being able to charge up to someone and whack them over your head with your dick. It's about squad-based tactically combat, with squads of infantry hiding behind trees and exchanging suppressing fire. Or it's about wild, hundred man zergs rampaging through a base. Or it's about a team of skilled cloakers dropping a hot generator. But not the dick. Leave the dick to Halo.

Well this is for those Die hard MA users, than sometimes come up sort do to finishing up a clip or jsut need to do that one bti o extra damage to take out the HA user.

If you get through a clip of ammo with a MA while facing off with a HA, you are either fighting them from to far away for a melee attack, or they are the worst shot in the game.

I disagree. I always run out of ammo when I'm fighting people. You may say that i am a crap shot but I still get my kills.

I wasn't saying the person running out of ammo is the bad shot, I was saying that the person with the HA weapon would have to be a lousy shot to let someone with a MA unload a whole clip at them from melee range.

I could see that. I never miss with my JH, though.
