that is, now that i have seven lines of stuff to the left of this post, i've turned off my avatar.

i liked my avatar, though - should i just turn on my avatar and take up all that room, or should i leave the avatar off - or should i ask hamma to take a couple lines out of my user pane?

i don't always post my signature (thx frag) because it takes up space too.

anyway, if condense wins, i'll ask hamma if he can take off contributor and make my thing say "PSU staff artist" on one line.
i dunno if he can/would even do that, but i don't know if i should ever bother asking yet, and i'm indecisive. solution: ask you guys

see, i'd like to do that, but i love having the stats and ouftit links there, and i can't drop emerald-vanu and keep the stats link - i already discussed that at length with hamma and gryph

Most posts (with sigs) take more than 7 lines anyway so the space over there gets streched out anyways.

Does this taking up of space have an affect on the site?

Just make sure your posts are long enough to fill that length it creates. :P

don't change your avatar jet - i identify people with their avatars, cuz i keep signatures turned off - and yours is cool

I do the same thing. It's weird seeing you without one, almost skimmed over you.

yeah turn it on, with the sig sizes most of us have we don't care. Or you could put your sig on and no one would notice

Geez, you don't even have a sig. How could you be taking up too much space?

You don't take up too much space.

Most of these people here run at at least 1024x768 with their browser fullscreened anyway, so it's not like you're causing a problem.

Heck, look at my fatarse sig :p

Never saw anything wrong with it.

Bring back the avatar!

It's the only way I can quickly scan a thread and find your posts.

yea I use avatars to identify whos posting. thats why people without them can be harder to remember/recognize.

As everyone else said, just keep everything. Most of us have an avatar, a few lines under our name, and a big sig. And even if we just post a line or two worth of text, it's really not that much space. Hell, the only time I would say, "Yes, martyr, you're hogging the whole page" would be if your sig had, like a crapload of graphics and text that took up half the page.

ok, the avatar's back, on the condition that i can get hamma to turn off my contributor line.

Alright, I got my ruler and measured from the bottom of the height of the "Contributer," from the bottom of the letters to the top of the "C," and the grand height is 2.5 mm! Believe, this isn't significant. I'm not going to hire a hitman just because you're taking 2.5 mm of the page.

Seriously, Hamma allows a picture up to 300 pix tall (I think) in your sig. How is one line of text going to matter?

Its not larger then anyone elses. *cough* mine *cough*

Keep it, no one cares about its length.

two words:

so what?

i'm not sure you understand.

i mean I am a forum admin, but it was back before the days of the magnificent sigbot, and i had to be anal about these things - it's a habit that's lived long, and it still irks me when a single person (me) takes up too much of a single page without adding anything worthwhile to the thread.

so i have have sigs turned off.
