How wonderful!!! On my first day as a member of Planetside-universe forums the new Vehicle patch is here. I got a chance to play with the patch this morning for about an hour before i had to come to work.

First off let me say there was tons of broadcast spam in the sanc and out on the battlefield about how much it sucked. I DISAGREE TOTALLY!!! I had a chance to try the new NC variant of the Deliverer (AWESOME FIREPOWER!!) and had a first hand battle with the ATV Fury variant with my Lightning (I was totally owned by a 4 wheeler!!) The new AMS is much more user friendly and the best change is that you now deploy in the drivers seat by pressing B.. So no more getting capped trying to deploy near heavy enemy lines!!! YAY!!

The world map also gained some nice user interface with a second window that displays the current percentage of the continent controlled by each empire.

This brings a whole new aspect to the game (Which it DESPERATLEY NEEDED!!) and i am very impressed by the PS Dev Team and the changes. I look very forward to what the Dev team have in store in upcomming patches as well!!

It just makes me wish i wasnt stuck here at work!! :(

What are your thoughts on the Patch??

Also, being a n00b to the forums, I could use some guidance on how to make a signature in the forums and also how to get the cool character stat page from PS added to my posts. (it might show up on this post if it just entails putting your char ID into the Profile options)

I played the patch last night at the playtest and I agree that the new vehicle variants will bring a new dimension to the battlefield and as a newly recerted AMS driver I am glad that they redesigned it.

However, I think that the new delis could use some balancing before going live but I understand that it is hard to balance the new vehicles with a poor turnout on the test server playtests. I expect a balance patch for the new vehicles to come out sometime next week.

I also played the fury quite extensively during the playtest and it is a fun little vehicles to play with however I think they need to smooth out the steering before I cert in it on the live servers as I found it hard to properly aim.

And I agree that the new pop distribution indicators could help to pick fights a little better and the K/D ratio display is good to know.

Edit: As a side note, I dont think that (percieved) imbalance with the NC thunderer is going to help the uneven populations on Emerald. Last night we were playing with 29%VS 40%NC 31%TR

Im vs. The aurora is ok. It looks cool in black. It lacks the anti air of the old deli and the other variants because the bullets drop, but it has great armor.
I'm kind of pissed at the fact that the nc variant is a 1 shot kill to soldiers in anything less than rexo and with both gunners you will die before u know what hits you. Also the rockets are as straight as an arrow
The tr variant is better too because the bullet are also as straight as an arrow. With aurora u have to aim up, shoot, adjust according to were it landed, shoot, adjust to both moving vecs, shoot, etc and you easilly get owned. But against soldiers on the ground u beat the crap out of them with the 6 shot alt fire.
The fury although I havent shot at anyone. I used it in training and it kinda sux that thers only two shots but I cant complain I guess because I have seen them rip apart delis and lightnings.
AMS... it... I dont like the fact that its black  . It looks destroyed. U cant tell if its still alive or not from a distance. Also there shouldnt be the spawn tube on the back. But the 2 equipment terminals I am gratefull for becuase of previous crowding problems I have seen.
The new hud elements are awesome. I like being able to see my kills/deaths and bep and cep (they make you realize how many u really get). The continent pop % is cool too. There is also what % of the global pop is where. Which is cool too (it tells you when an enemy is at a cont you own ;) )
But overall I am very happy with the devs. The new variants made the game feel alot newer and planetside needed that. THANKYOU DEVS!

I'm fairly ok with the new patch.. I like the Raider, dislike high power of Thunderer (no flame please, just sayin :groovy: )

I dont like the new window thing on map because you can't do a base drain very easily, you're % shows on map :(

Apparently the sniper rifle does less damage too.

But hooray on new AMS :)

Oh and the lil arrows on vech in HUD :) they're so crazy :D

*fingers crossed* Here's hopin' for a balance. And the phantasm :) i only wish it was in air support. and didn't have such a 'disney' sounding name :D

I love the new patch, I dont like the way the AMS deploys now but its not that bad and the Thunderer kicks ass. Peacemaker, Xmodum, and myself went around Cyssor owning flails and prowlers.

Oh god! Will the prowler ever get a break?

Great. After that immense controversy on a single thread in the OF, they didn't do a goddamn thing about the Thunderer. And you all know how long it takes to get that shit fixed once it goes live...

Acctualy we didnt own them. We used them like the devs suggested. By skirting along the battle lines and finding weak prowlers then blasting them. The flails on the other hand were sitting ducks for our barages.

Also to note I drove vanguard today. I went up against an enemy raider once in it. Totaly owned by raider. The things chew through everything.

It was quite sad on my part, I knew I could gun better. :(

I freakin love the way the VS complain.

VS: We don't have an arc weapon! Both the thresher and the magrider don't have arc's!

Dev: Ok, here's the aurora, it arc's.

VS: WTF OMG HAXX0RZ! We didn't want an arc weapon! We want a straight firing weapon like the Thunderer!

(I play VS on Emerald)

I am so sick and tired of every empire thinking that THEY are the most gimped. Just need to get that out.

I love the new patch, I dont like the way the AMS deploys now but its not that bad ...You actually prefer to drive an AMS into a heavy siege, jump out (under fire of course ), run around front, only to find out you are parked too close to some other AMS? What's not to like here?
As for me personally, I much prefer the safety of the cab until I know I can 1) deploy and 2) provide a little cover first, let a few of my heavily armed friends spawn in under cover, and THEN get out! :D

Agreed Marsman.

As for the Thunderer; yet another instagib weapon given to the NC. I will NOT hold my breath to see how long it takes the DEVs to send out a balance patch for this. Yes, I'm bitter. Yes, I'm pissed. Not at the DEVs, but mostly at us TR on Emerald.

No organization
No set plan
No recall notice
No fallback positions
No support from other outfits

Frankly, I'm getting sick and tired of everything Planetside.

Played it on Test Server, thought it was awesome.

Grr, have to try it in a few days...

I believe the Thunderer is flat out the best light-armored vehicle in the game. It kills infantry, whatever armor, instantly with one shot. It has two cannons belching instant death which means it can cover basically 360 degrees. No other weapons platform has this lethality. The Raider is pitiful compared to the Thunderer - it should have been called the Deliverer Duece as it is simply a doubled up Deliverer.

I hear Sentrosi's frustration - it gets aggravating when you jump into the game and the population levels are TR - 27%, NC - 44%, VS - 29% and they have a weapon like the Thunderer to use. Well, we put up some good fights last night, but it was a rough battle to say the least.

They SHOULD (I say SHOULD) have toned down the gauss vs infantry damage so that it didn't instakill rexo armour in one shot. But Smoke said that it might not make the patch deadline.

I can see what they're doing, the deliverers are supposed to fit the old addage "Attack is the best form of defence". Whilst the Aurora gets this vs infantry and the Raider gets this in a general way, the thunderer gets it as anti-armour. Problem being is that the damned thing dishes out enough damage that nothing has a chance to counter it. SmokeJumper's defence of the power was that over the course of 10 seconds the Vanguard should outdamage the the Thunderer. I doubt even a Vanguard could last 10 seconds against a Thunderer. The Raider is a beautiful machine when full manned, it's just so much fun to gun in :D

And thank goodness for the striker lock bugfix

SmokeJumper's defence of the power was that over the course of 10 seconds the Vanguard should outdamage the the Thunderer.SmokeJumper tries defending the power of a troop transport vehicle by comparing it to the MBT of the NC?

A troop transport should never be comparable to a MBT, yet the Thunderer can own a Prowler fairly easily. To me, that grants a huge advantage to an already hard-hitting empire. I understand the concept behind the different empires and their weapons systems, but the game needs balance to keep people interested in playing the three empires evenly. I have always been TR and always will be - I love the challenge! :D

Lartnev

Yeah, that's what he did. Said that the Vanguard had the advantage in damage over the span of 10 seconds, and had 2000 points extra armour.

However, to be honest the concept is not that silly. Many of the APCs today can carry things like TOW missiles which can engage MBTs. The only problem is they lack the armour to go toe to toe. That should be the situation between the new deliverers and the MBTs, however as the current Thunderer shows, that's being optimistic. I can only hope that Sporkfire returns this fact to the Devs as he's currently on a fact finding mission.

The patch is cool, but the vehicles are very unbalanced at this moment in time.

I like the new vehicles, even though they are unbalanced. I have an NC and a TR account so I got experience with both of them, and here is what I found:

While going against the Thunderer in a Lightning I get killed in three shots with a full shield. I can barely kill one in a reaver, but that's possible. Prowlers suck now, they are pointless. On the other hand, when I play as NC I can tear through a Raider in a Lightning and a Reaver, and I almost killed one in a Mosquito. The four guns are good, but in battle they never focus their fire. The Aurora is just laughable. I own it so easily it's not even funny. I guess because the VS don't know how to use arch.
