Although it's a bit embarassing that you saw that...don't take anything from it. That string was stuck in there for me to go fix it, but the final decisions on which cert the Phantasm is going toward has not been made. That really *is* just a temp string reminding me to add stuff there. (I'll have to remind the team to put something at least *reasonable* in there next time.

:D

Obviously it's going to be a 3D Render of SmokeJumper's head that flies around and shoots laser beams from its eyes and fire from its mouth.

I remember when the Liberator and Skyguard came out. We got concept art so we knew what it was before it hit the actual servers.

Yeah well it makes sense too aswell. We dont want 100 ugly bastard machines flying round the server now, do we?

A cloaking air del is cool, but I'd prefer a blackhawk style VTOL that could hold five, plus two chaingunners, and everyone could fire rifle sized weapons out of the main compartment, and be hit independently of the vehicle.

Like the transport Huey in Battlefield: Vietnam. Not a cloaking air del.

The ability to fire out from the vehicle is probably not going to happen for a while, if ever.

As for chainguns, well I guess this is going to perhaps be for spec ops incursions as opposed to just being a smaller galaxy, and sounds pretty cool if you ask me. Nothing to stop an armed variant making an appearance later.

You know how ineffective the ablitity to use rifles on the huey on BFV is? Between leading your target, you also have to anticipate where your own pilot is going. PS weaponry, even the MA weaponry, is geared more toward close to medium range encounters. The only thing I can see being usefull for the gunner seats there would be SA.

Hover over a base, light up any targets, and when you start taking fire back, bug out. If you're firing mid flight at any signifigant altitude, you're bound to have minimal accuracy. Get low and use a fast-firing weapon like a cycler.

You know as well as I do that looking into, and actually doing are two very different things. It'd take some doing, I mean first you gotta get the people to ride with the vehicle by attaching it to the sides of the vehicle. Then you have to allow them to pivot in position so that they can aim and fire their weapons. I'm not saying it's impossible, I mean people can move inside the harasser for example depending on which direction the gun is facing, just saying that it'll take a lot of effort to get right.

And it's my opinion that the effort applied to making it possible would be a far better troop transport and variable loadout weapons platform.

Well The AirDell, doesn't have to be able to fire your of the sides, it just needs to be able to act as a gunship and defend its self.

I think to side gunners with full 180 degree rotation and one tailgunner like the lib would be perfect

Lartnev
2004-06-01, 11:04 AM
Well its protection is the cloak. Like I said, I'm sure it'd be possible to add armed variants once it's released. Although a topside and an underbelly gunner would probably be even better :)

Thats suicide. Wait, on second thought, I agree. Put it in, with a buncha CDL (including you, early :D ) over an NC base with that thing. Either A) someone will man a turret (for once) and shoot you down because you dont have the weaponry on hand to take it out B) A few PXs/AA Maxes will come shoot you down or C) You actually kill a few people before people wise up and take out A and B.

I'm sorry, I keep forgetting you're a newb. Countermeasures will be in the game relatively soon, long before any such vehicle would be introduced. We're far too smart to deploy one over a base that still has functional wall turrets. And hey, if you want to feed MAXes to anybody onboard manning the chainguns or weilding a decimator, feel free. It's only XP for me.

Keep trying to show me up Keebler, it's nonsensical and amusing.

Your one good shot if you can deci a moving AA max from a slow moving/hovering vehicle at any kind of range, but I forgot, I am just a newb who cant be right. how dare I oppose earlydawn

Honestly I don't want to have the Phantasm in the game unless it's a cloaker only vehicle. Like the wraith you should need to be a cloaker to enjoy the stealth benefits. With this vehicle and perhaps a "silent drop" technology for cloakers so they don't make that white streak fall dampener effect complete with sound when a cloaked infiltrator hot drops from a Phantasm.

I really don't want to see agiles and rexos stealth dropping on towers. Good tower fights are one of my favorite things in this game. Having several rexos or agiles with HA, Decimators, and Sensor Shield Implants being able to stage a surprise offensive from above with end many many good tower seiges.

I really don't want to see heavy infantry enjoying the benefits of cloaking. Let the grunts grunt and let the infiltrators infiltrate. SOE don't blend roles please.

Actually from what was said in the ATD, the Phantasm can only be driven by an infiltrator (as opposed to the wraith which can be used by non-infil armour but not cloak)

That means dedicated drivers, will have to get an infli suit if they want to drive it?
Well i guess the Infli should get something, they haven't been getting any love lately, unlike the NC's...

You call the Pulsar stealth buff, and the AI uberness of the aroura not love? Well ok.

Well my outfit has pleanty of cloakers that are more than willing to fly the Droptroops around, all they have to do it land it someplace a little hidden and no one will find it, assuming it is like the wraith and stays cloaked. This lets the cloaker sneak in form a rout that is more sneaky, and not the big battle with all the dropers.
