Ladies and Gentlemen of the PSU Community, it is with great pride and excitement that I announce to you that

PSU MOBILIZATION ALPHA IS ON!

From Friday, August 20th until Monday, August 23rd of 2004, the PSU Community will meet in Orlando, Florida for a weekend of fun and flames.

We will be staying at the Sheraton Vistana Resort (http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest/search/hotel_detail.html?city=&stateProvince=&country=&postalCode=&hotelLocationType=&pOI=&arrivalDate=2004-06-01&departureDate=2004-06-02&lengthOfStay=1&numberOfRooms=1&numberOfAdults=1&amenityType1=&amenityType2=&amenityType3=&nState1=&nState2=&nCity1=&nCity2=&requestedChainCode=SI&requestedAffiliationCode=VO&propertyID=5608&returnURL=&promotionCode=&corporateAccountNumber=&rcdi=&iATANumber=&groupBlockID=&ratePlanName=&starwoodPreferredGuest=&fromSearch=22XX&H=250&W=491).

The tentative plan for the weekend is:

Friday - big, celebratory dinner at Medieval Times.
Saturday - spend the day at Universal Studios. LAN Party and pizza afterwards.
Sunday - spend the day at Disney. Dinner in Downtown Disney.
Monday - breakfast at the hotel, and farewell's.

The cost has not yet been calculated for the weekend, but those figures will be released as soon as they are available.

Would everyone who is planning on coming PLEASE send me an email at [email protected], and include your PSU nickname, your real name, and your address so that I can send you the consent forms and Martyr can start drawing you for your custom comics.

Parents are more than welcome to attend, and if they are planning on attending, let me know in the email.

If you have any questions about the meet, email me at the address above.

Now, as far as Disney is concerned, I need to know which park everyone wants to go to.

Choices are:
1. Magic Kingdom (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkLanding?id=MKLandingPage)
2. EPCOT (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkLanding?id=EPLandingPage)
3. MGM Studios (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkLanding?id=MGMLandingPage)
4. Animal Kingdom (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkLanding?id=AKLandingPage)

So again, make sure to vote, and everyone, PLEASE email me ASAP so we can get this ball rolling! Thanks, and congratulations for making this possible!!

I May be able to go, have to ask my parents. I hope so, My dad thinks im to young for things like this. But if the Devs go that would be great, my vote is for Epcot. It worries me though that Triggar is organizing this because Martyr would come with and kill us all.

Our weapons (and YOUR weapons) will NOT be at the event.

Please speak to your parents and if they are hesitant to give you permission, ask them to be a chaperone!

i highly doubt it.

anyway, there will be no weaponry at any PSU events that can be considered by the state of florida to be concealed or deadly.

that is, swiss army knife is ok - but don't bring anything you couldn't take into universal or a bar.

PROPOSED CHANGE OF PLANS:

How about we do ONE park on Saturday, either one of the Disney parks or Universal Studios (http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/orlando/website/), and then spend Sunday at the LAN center.

Thoughts?

I'm hesitant to say right now because the final itinerary isn't set yet, but it will be somewhere around $350.

Obviously I am making changes necessary to reduce that cost, but be aware that the figure only includes hotel, Medieval Times, admission to two theme parks, a LAN party, and pizza. More can be added on, and that does not include your own spending money or lunch in the park. I'm also debating whether or not to ditch one day at a theme park and just have us do ONE park that weekend, and spend the other day LAN-ning.

I will get a detailed list as more gets planned.

alright, me and everay have been discussing this, and we've created a solution.

what if we get like 4 rooms, order a ton of rollouts, and everyone can just come "visit" us in the room and sleep there overnight.

also, heres the rates for that weekend:

http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest/search/ratelist.html?propertyID=5608&requestedChainCode=SI&requestedAffiliationCode=VO&categoryNumber=&iATANumber=&corporateAccountNumber=&minPoints=&maxPoints=&arrivalDate=2004-08-20&departureDate=2004-08-23&fromPage=prop_overview&roomOccupancyTotal=1&lengthOfStay=3&parseRepeatable=true&numberOfRooms=1&numberOfAdults=1&ratePlanName=&ciDate=08%2F20%2F2004&coDate=08%2F23%2F2004&theBrand=SPG

I'll prolly be there but... damn it sounds expensive. I only make like $400 a month, and half of that goes to paying for my car. So, in order for me to go I really need to save like crazy.

What I just need to know is the approximate total cost of the whole thing. I'm willin to spend like $300-400 for this trip I guess...

no weapons? ah damn... I wanted to show off my nun-chukas prowess :p
then again im guessing airport security wouldn't be too happy if I tried to bring them along...

Triggar
2004-06-02, 02:25 AM
No, I don't think they would be too thrilled about that.

Estimated cost at the moment, which is PROBABLY going to change (either decrease OR increase) is about $350.

This is for the "bare essentials" - i.e. hotel, Medieval Times, I think that's two theme parks included, LAN time, and pizza at the LAN. Obviously more planning needs to be done to include other miscellanous expenses, and I will come out with a final figure hopefully sometime tomorrow!

ah ok thanks Triggar, that just about falls into the zone I was estimating myself. I *SHOULD* be able to come... but I can't commit 100% yet... my job isn't the most reliable thing in the world (my pay fluctuates, a month ago I got a 40% pay cut... for all I know it could happen again) so I will do my best to save up and prepare. Yeah, there is a massive Marriott south of the Sheraton. It's further down the interstate so it doesn't seem as centrally located, and further from Universal and International Drive. I don't know how nice their budget rooms are. I tried the reservation thing but it didn't have anything available for the planned dates, might be all booked.

Sheraton looks nice though, I drive by it several times a month as I'm less than an hour away from the place.

All payment must be received by me no later than

This is to ensure that thousands of dollars for hotel rooms and dinner reservations and park tickets don't get charged to my debit card when there's no money in there to cover it. Grah...I dont understand how this is gonna work for me. I really dont want to stay at the hotel. Im only an hour away. Is this possible? Also, because of the CDL rally, I might just pick up a year pass to Universal, due to going twice is about the cost of one...

Also, the itinerary is by no means set, which means the final cost is by no means set, so I will be hard at work today sorting out the details and hopefully by this evening I will have a final number and itinerary for you.

If you really don't want to stay at the hotel with us, that's cool, and if you want to pick up a 2-day pass to Universal at the PSU Mobilization and use the other day for the CDL Rally, that's cool too, but just let me know well in advance so I can adjust all the numbers.

Also, the itinerary is by no means set, which means the final cost is by no means set, so I will be hard at work today sorting out the details and hopefully by this evening I will have a final number and itinerary for you.

EDIT: Thanks Mani! And Dharkie is correct.

2-Park Annual Power Pass

Enjoy 1-year admission* to both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure!

*Blackout dates apply.

All Guests $109.95

----------------

2-Day 2-Park Ticket

Come any two days you choose! Valid for admission to Islands Of Adventure and Universal Studios, with unlimited park-to-park access. Visit both parks within the same day! Admission to select CityWalk venues as well.

Adult $99.95
Child $88.95

Yeah...for 10 more bucks I can get an annual pass... Blackout dates are 1'st, 7'th and 8th of august....

Ima pick that up more then likely. And also, hell, I can drive an hour each way every day if it means saving what? 150 bucks a night? If I come across money, then I *might* stay, but, I have to leave sunday night, cant miss school monday morning, mom would kill me more then likely.

Although I am not going I'd like to see more details about the LAN, i.e. since there is no need to bring your own computer what games are installed on these LAN computers? Can you install your own games provided that you legally own them? (warze = ban ;) ) How many computers are there to use? How long are you able to use them? I.e. is there an allotted time you are allowed to use them?

Triggar
2004-06-02, 07:29 PM
Ivan, the group rate for the LAN center is $3/hour, and I'm still undecided as to when I should book it. I believe they have Planetside, FarCry, City of Heroes, and some other ones, I will look later for you. There is no limit to how long you're at the computer inside the time I've booked, but after that you're on your own :)

I just bought a travel guide for Orlando, so I'll be pouring over it tonight and tomorrow as I finalise the itinerary. Also, I've received group menu's for the restaurants I've got set, so I'll be gathering opinions on which ones to choose and that will affect the final cost that I'll release sometime soon!

$3204 divided by 30 (people) = $110/person

Did some searching of tourist reviews, found this quick summary:

Garlic Bread
Fresh Vegetable Soup
Spare Ribs
Roasted Chicken
Herb-Basted Potato
Pastry of the Castle

Drinks
Beer, wine, soda, coffee and tea

"The unlimited banquet feast includes a pizza brochette appetizer, vegetable soup, roasted chicken, spare ribs, potatoes and pastry dessert served by "serfs" and "wenches." In true medieval style, silverware is not used. LOL. Priceless. :) Meals are individually pre-plated here. Hot or cold vegetable platters may be substituted if requested in advance. Two rounds of sangria, beer, soda, coffee and tea are included with the meal price. Additional beverages cost extra. "

Mani, we're ALL going to have to be up pretty early, since the hotel restaurant (where I plan on having breakfast) serves until 11am, and the itinerary says we'll be on our way to the park at 10am!

And I hope that no one who comes will be smoking on this trip, and if they do, they can take it outside! It's Florida, so that whole "it's cold out!" excuse won't cut it!

EDIT: I've reserved four suites, sleeping eight people per suite. The plan is to have one Event Admin per room with chaperones distributed evenly. I hope to eventually "assign" people to each Admin for the sake of keeping everyone in check and accounted for!

Read this:

Because of general incompetence as well as corruption in the Miami-Dade school system, the school year is being enlargened by two weeks- school now starts on August 16 as opposed to late August, which even then was pretty early. Why? They wish to study for the FCAT, (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test). I doubt there will be any improvement in FCAT scores due to said reasons and general stupidity.

However, it gets worse.

I go to a private prep school. (All-male. :( ) The Archdiocese of Miami calls the shots when it comes to our school schedule.

We are being moved up two weeks, despite *not* taking the FCAT, solely to coincide with the public schools.

Temperatures in Miami are already in the High 90s in Miami, even going past 97 deg. F. With the humidity, it feels like more than 100 degrees.

For a Floridian, this is "Sun and Fun."

For a non-native Floridian like me or a foriegner to the Solar Radiation State, this is "Is it just me or DID THE FUCKING SUN JUST GO NOVA!"

dont forget if you live in NC(or somewhere in the vicinity of the route down to Orlando) I will be more than happy to pick you up if you are going.

Alabama is close, right? (ha!) You could come down through chattanooga, drive 2 hrs out of your way, pick me up, then drive 3 hours back over to Atlanta and head south again :)

I also hear that Squeeky is going... but I've promised Triggar that I won't beat him within an inch of his life (which I think is pretty generous of me). We want this whole event to be fun... so yeah... I'm gonna behave. Anyhow, this sounds like its going to be a total blast... really lookin forward to it. :)

Downtown Disney has a huge arcade (like, huge, it takes up an entire building) for free to play each game (you just pay to get in). I forget what it's called, but I remember it.
Anyway, I doubt I'll be able to go but eh there's a chance.

I originally suggested this for when a "whole day of lan" was a possiblity. My theory was half lan gaming, half Disney Quest, then we could go to dinner while still in downtown disney.

Sorry guys, I don't think there will be a full day of LAN.

My logic is, we're all geeks, we're all gamers, we game all the time with these people, and this weekend will be a weekend to hang out with them in real life, and not in game. BUT, I've kept in mind that we are all gamers at heart, so I've booked the LAN center (as an optional event) for a few hours on Sunday night.

Bah. You are missunderstanding me again.

You said something along the lines of "instead of disney, maybe we could do a full day of lan?" A while ago in the disney park decision thread. I was just referenceing what I said, in that thread, that instead of full day of lan (which I wouldnt be able to stand really) would be half the day at lan, and then have the day at DisneyQuest, because you still get lots of interaction at disneyquest. Then, since we were at downtown disney anyways (which is where disneyquest is located...) we could go straight from DisneyQuest to whatever restaraunt (Rainforest Cafe/Planet Hollywood I think you said?).

Thats all I was saying, just referencing some things, even though the iternerary seems set in stone already.

Triggar
2004-06-03, 05:53 PM
Not really set in stone, just sort of set in clay that's rapidly drying :)

Not to mention a VR "room" that is a pirate game.

One person drives, and then a few people run back and forth on the moving platform shooting off cannons.

As promised, I looked into Disney Quest (http://attractiontickets.tickets.com/buy/TicketTrans), and unless I should tack an extra $80 onto everyone's ticket for a few hours of entertainment, I think I'll leave it out of the itinerary.

I'm working on a budget now, I just need to make one or two more phone calls to get everything ready, but the information should be available by Monday.
