After I got off Planetside last night, while trying to find sleep I couldn't stop thinking about it, and in that semi-comotose state my mind wandered and happened upon an idea, which then quickly became very many. I have read about the winnable war servers and what not, but why not take that and make it a story line server?
It starts off with everyone TR, right after we have just come through the worm hole, and we have to colonize it. There are no bases, just marked off areas of land for them to go, we have to build them. I was thinking along the lines of when you walk up to where the land is you can use a gluegun on it, and any number of engineers could do this so it would add up, like repairing a vehicle, and it would take 20 or so engineers about 2 minutes to spawn the very bottom floor. Then they go inside and spawn everything that goes on the bottom floor. Generators would take 10 engis 2 minutes, spawn tubes would take 2 engis a minute a piece, each equipment terminal would take 2 engis a minute a piece, and they go through and spawn that bottom floor. Once its done, they go outside and target the marked off area of land where the bottom floor is now and it takes 20 engis another 2 minutes to spawn the next floor, and they do this to build up the whole base. Once the base is finished it goes nuetral, and the people have to bring in ants and fill up the NTU silo. Then it becomes TR. As for all the non engis, I was thinking there could be a way to gain xp by protecting the engineers from some sort of wild life or anything, a thing vacant in Planetside. They could gain a few ranks this way. After 3 continents have been completely built, the war starts. Anyone who is on a the time gets an announcement and a choice of which new faction to defect to, or stay with TR. Of course it might have to be random so it kept kind of equal, but then I think a defection feature would be nice on any shard, so you can take a character and go to another faction without having to start all over again. Anyway, I think this way you have something to fight for. Its random which of the 3 continents that was built up will become your home continent, but you get teleported there to begin moving out and building more bases in the name of your faction, or possibly to begin and early rush on another faction. If at anytime a faction owns no bases, and there is no one alive to secure another base, they are given the choice of which of the two remaining factions they want to defect to. If say, the Vanu lost, and all the Vanu went to TR, then TR would win and that server would last but a few hours. Then again, if no one lost early, and the whole server was built up, it would take forever before anyone lost, and the server might last months. Either way it would be interesting. There never is a way for you to lose and not be able to play, you just have to fight for a different faction, and it gives you something to fight for.
I think that about covers all of my thoughts from last night...excluding the ideas for two new armor types...anyway, enough rambling. Not sure if this will even get one response, and what the nature of such would be, but eh, whaeva, it was fun thinking about it anyway.
