After watching pheonix users in action, it occured to me that something that would considerably add to in-game tactics would be to swap the pheonix to common pool special assault or AV and give NC another AV weapon. Im thinking an anti-tank rifle with a close range, extremely damaging secondary. The pheonix is nowhere near the lancer/striker in killing power, but it enables an infantryman to fire from cover and provides supressive fire from extreme range. I figure that there is no way that this could hurt the game. Since the nc would still have their baby(plus the other gun) and VS/TR troopers would gain the advantage of indirect fire. Whaddya think?

You mean a lancer come decimator? No...way....
As for the indirect capabilities of the pheonix.... well it has its ups and its downs, trick is to exploit its downs.

have you ever tried killing a MAX at short range (outdoors) with a pheonix? its almost impossible. Striker is a much better medium to short range AV weapon, and the pheonix is just uber at long range. the damage is at a nice pattern with the rest of AV, you still have to reload after every shot. its fine.

I've looted pheonixes before, it's not quite as hard as you're making it to kill things close range. It's pretty much a decimator you have to reload after every shot for (which isn't really a bad thing). I'm a big AV fan, and, by far, the Pheonix is the best at what it does.

it SUCKS at AA however. But taking out soldiers/land vehicles is relitivly ok. Kinda wish there is the option to drive the missle with the keypad as a side to using the mouse.

The pheonix just needs more restrictions, persay. Or a revamp that gets rid of its current overpowring ability when zerged like it always is. It in no way reflects anything remotely near the idea they give of the nc and i think they need to be changed so they have a real weapons designs and not just an overpoweringly simple one! That includes making the pheonix both weaker in some affects and giving it a more profound design which would have more obvious benefits. In the process making it more interesting, instead of the norm and something stupid like damage decrease or whatnot.
And if they did want to do something obvious they could start with making the secondary modes reload actualy longer than the fucking first mode! Full fucking barrel attack and it reloads the same as one shot. Thats real fair. Or havent they noticed yet.
And to rant about one more thing. Off topic but important. Does the empire incentive ever look backwords. I swear it is and they as usual havent noticed because they never get in the game. I look at the damn cont and overal map and have actually seen bonuses durring a larger continental and the rare times the VS have more pop than everyoen else. OR is that some leftover from the vs always having the lower pop?

NC are all about power, and the pheonix is powerful.
I don't think the pheonix is overpowered except for its infantry damage.

Finally someone with an brain on active duty. :)
Everything has it's strengths and weaknesses in this game... from a cloaker's prospective Phoenix users are awesome because you can consistantly get knife kills on them... try that against TR for example who don't have to be either prone or unaware to fire accurately.
The Striker owns MAX units outdoors and shoos away aircraft with great effect. Plus you can fire and move at the same time and still keep your high accuracy (lock on). This is the best "base wall" infantry AV weapon. You can kill MAX units, aircraft, and light ground vehicles from your protected location while moving and fustrating snipers.
I think the best "wall defender" in the game is a TR Rexo grunt with a Striker and either a Maelstrom (if available) or a Thumper (with Plasma grenades and 1 box of jammer grenades for vehicles that get to close). A squad of these guys with a shield module can pretty much hold off a zerg. The only 2 things you have to worry about are 1. High altitude Liberators, but the bombs are easy to see so just move into a covered stairwell until the bomb storm blows over and 2. Snipers if the enemy manages to position several of them on opposing sides to deny the usual cover... again though, the stairwells are priceless. You just have to remember to keep moving and keep owning.
The Phoenix is awesome because you can shoot from cover and own wall turrets, enemy MAX units, and scare off enemy snipers. But, you are helpless when guiding your rocket so launch from a safe location or snipers and cloakers will eat you alive. And don't even think about using this weapon against aircraft unless the aircraft is engaged with something else and not paying attantion to you... i.e. hovering for a kill, etc.
The real power of the Phoenix is in doing what I call "denial of service" attacks where you hit enemy vehicles behind their walls at repair pads or repair silos. Also you can hit exposed vehicle terminals denying vehicles for a short period forcing the enemy to repair. Finally, the enemy will have a tuff time keeping an AMS in the CY if the NC organize a Phoenix Squad.
The Lancer is a nice "sniper AV" but is useless against aircraft and has the same problems that any sniper has... you need to crouch and not move... so snipers and cloakers love Lancer users :( But, it can own light vehicles and MAX units. 9 times out of 10 though I find I'm better off with a Decimator. Deci sniping is sweet! :)
