Ok i've been playing a distrubing amount of City of Heroes lately, and it got me thinking.
What other marketing angles could they exploit on tried and true formulas that i'd fall for like a leming on ritilin. I mean planetside was kinda like a poorly executed extension of my tribes fetish, the heir aparent that just didnt quite measure up. Neocron was fairly good try at my cyberpunk/shadowrun leanings, the only thing that really pissed me off was getting waxed in newbie zones by oposition members, who the minuete they were actualy in danger whould run up the stairs to the "safe zone" that was sposed to be the capital of my goddamn empire. Shouldnt that have gotten them insta gibbed by the police bots? That and classes being not even close to balanced kinda bit, anyone thats played recently elat me know if it's any better/worse?
So whats left as far as licenses that whould be awesome as MMORPGS if their pulled off even closed to right? Well theres one that comes to mind.
Fallout.
The fallout universe has it all, the oportunities for both PvP and dungeon crawling. Plenty of wasteland and former cities to set up settlements in, reasons to work together, reasons to fight. Plenty of difrent angles and power sets, a loyal cult following, a rich game world. It could encorporate a wide variety of angles and still be fun. If done right.
Who wel whould play a fallout RPG thats my question I guess, or think of another great old license that might be worth the MMORPG treatment.
