as you will notice. The guy aims the pistol directly at the edge of the sword and you'll see from there what happens.

I'd like to state something.
First of all, I'd like to know what he was using. A weak-ass low-penetration safety-tip JHP round will almost certainly be bisected by a sword. Maybe standard FMJ ball will too.
However, that's not the main point.
The main point is that every anime fanboy in the galaxy is now screaming "OMG KATANAS DEFLECT BULLETS THEY R BETTER THAN GUNS". Wrong.
I'd like to see someone with the reflexes to chop a bullet, without knowing the exact angle it's coming from. (i.e. in a gunfight.)

all correct - but that doesnt keep this from being a totally sweet demonstration of the quality of the blade.

Yeah, I don't think they're trying to claim that they can cut bullets in an actual fight or anything. Its just a demonstration of the excellent craftsmanship of those swords.

Yes I agree. No one is stupid enought to get into a fight and not choost a pistol over a sword.
But it just shows how legendary made Katana truly deserve the name of the sharpest, strongest and best forged blades in the world.
If you can imagine before the invention of reliable handheld firearms, i would definately wish to have one of these in my posession for a weapon when needed.

Unless, of course, the Katana comes from the Shop At Home Channel (http://media.ebaumsworld.com/katanaslip.mpg).

I hate decorative weapons, of any kind......
Oh and about the bullets, people been saying they were probably lead or some other softer alloy.
Be noted Katana's are made from Demascus steel, and those made by master craftmen can have up to 1000 folds, with a high tensile strength along the blade, and low yield.
It was designed to take high impact on the very edge, remember these weapons were also mounted on long spears and used on horse back like extended swords sweeping the ground at around 40 - 50mph to impact with full armoured soldiers, horses, etc.
Of course if they tried any sort of test on the flat of the blade its the complete opposite. You can easily break a katana on it's side,
even by stepping on it.
I won't be surprised if a steel bullet was sliced, let alone a FMJ, FMC or JHT which i understand as lead encasted in copper.

I went to the del mar fair a couple years ago. They had these guys doing a katana demonstration. One guy took a katana, and using one hand, and just barely putting any effort into it, he sliced a phonebook all the way through. UBER clean cut too.

Weak ass round.
Guns own all. If they didn't, you'd see republicans taking martial arts classes to defend their women and children. Do we? No. We buy the best guns we can and feel secure that no matter how many invaders (be they rapists, murderers, theives, or kung fu ninjas) come through our door, theyre all leaving in a body bag.

Where the hell did you get that from?
In close conditions, it's an instant triple shot burst - 2 to the heart and one to the head (in case of body armor). At a farthur distances it's a measured shot to insure accuracy (if you miss, they won't).
If they are on my property and I have a wife and kids in the home, i shoot to kill. If it's just me, i shoot to permanently maim.
Dunno why i even need to explain. Ask any conservative and you'll get the same answer.

i know tek, noone can move fast enought to block a bullet round, exept mabey one of them rocket rounds, but the point of the video which i still havent seen because i get 404 or something is to show the strength of the sword, and i must assure you, that not every sword is like those off of HSN, and the really good ones of old can still be made.

Be noted Katana's are made from Demascus steel, and those made by master craftmen can have up to 1000 folds, with a high tensile strength along the blade, and low yield. While it has been done the only swords that were folded 1000 tended to owned by emperors or extremely wealthy samurai families simply due to the time it took and the amount of money that had to be paid out. Most katanas were folded 200 times. Even the 35th generation desecendent of the Masamune family confirms that.
(For those that don't know the masamune family is a legendary family of sword makers
some even claim that he developed/perfected the folding steel technique)
It was designed to take high impact on the very edge, remember these weapons were also mounted on long spears and used on horse back like extended swords sweeping the ground at around 40 - 50mph to impact with full armoured soldiers, horses, etc. But remember that the majority of the samurai armor was made of layers a leather sewn together by silk so the armor was very light and flexable the only pieces that were metal were the armor only the arms. Most Samurai armor was deemed as Funeral costumes something nice to die in.
P.S. I'm not trying to flame you or anything just adding facts. Katanas are among my favorite weapon for hand to hand combat and the samurai are the most interesting warrior class ever In my opinion (besides the Knights Templar but thats a different story)
P.S. again: I inherited a katana from my late grandfather that was stationed in japan for 7 years. He said he had it made as a reminder of the years he was there. the paper work is at my grandmother's house but it is authentic. it has papers of who made it and when it was made I believe it was made in 1951 but I'm not sure.

its ok. :groovy: i didn't really do any proper reserach on common Katana as a whole. Only seen and heard from personal experience that we had a family katana that was blood Tied. That on the 500th one of my relatives had to drip a line of blood along the blade before it was folded up to 1000.
I don't how we got it, and my fathers family isn't exactly wealthy nor can i say "middle class", didn't really ask much about it.
But yes, i doubt all Katana's were made by master craftmen, i mean they had to be mass or at leased basket produced low quality weapons for the bog standard Samurai.
