My Yahoo email is so overrun at this point I'll be setting up my Gmail and handing it out to friends only and continuing to use Yahoo to sign up for things since it's fubar'd anyhow.

Yahoo doesn't have very good spam protection.
hotmail > all
I get maybe 1 spam mail a month.

um its actually the exact opposite, my hotmail one gets around 100 junk mail in a day or so and my Yahoo gets 0. Has hotmail gotten any better? I mean its been like 3 years since I actually used it because I got so pissed off at all the crap.

They are about the same. Junk mail, for me, increased exponentially with both. I had to shut down my Hotmail account for it.

I've used Mail.com, yahoo, and hotmail in the past. Mail.com owns. 0 spam, for me anyway.

Well I think it depends, but I used to get zero spam on my yahoo account, then I got a ton because of a desperate night of pron-searching. Then I blocked all the email accounts from the pron people and I'm back to zero. I like Yahoo mainly because its a nicer place to look at than hotmail and mail.com.

This seems like a waste to me. Sure, 100mb is nice. They need to offer something that gmail does not though. Why get 100mb when you can 10 times that with gmail?

That analysis of Google's G-mail user agreement is down right creepy.
Not only are they monitoring and recording your every keystroke, but they record messages sent from other email services to g-mail.
Not only will I not be getting g-mail, i will block anyone who attempts to email me using a g-mail account.
It's amazing what people will sign if you dangle a carrot (1 gig of storage) in front of their faces.
[EDIT] Upon closer reading... g-mail is fucking SICK. Your constitutional rights mean absolute SHIT. Why? Because 2/3 of Google's use is based OUTSIDE the US. Meaning that a google server site placed in a country with no privacy rights allows google (or anyone else google decides to sell out to) to search all your emails for sensitive information.
How many people have had a password emailed to them from a subscription service? Guess what? According to google that information is free range for anyone that either pays google, subpoenas google, or hacks google's storage database.
[EDIT2] Wow, and i just read that big article from the Electronic Commision on the cookies that Google uses. Essentially google is making one huge spyware service, just begging to be used by identity theives.

What would you even do with a gig of storage space for email? I'm happy enough with 100mb to stay with yahoo.

Yep. You keep letting goggle tell you that. Meanwhile you click their user agreement and sign away all your privacy rights.
When one single identity theif infiltrates google's work base or one hacker cracks their server you'll have ALL your stored emails being poured over.
Within 5 minutes they will have everything they need to steal your life.
Hell that's assuming that goggle doesn't sell the information to someone, which is PERFECTLY legal for them to do since your rights don't apply in some countries.

Whatever.
Google sure does make their g-mail sound attractive. But then.. Stalin was good at making Communism sound wonderful.
There were people who walked right into communism with open arms. And there will be people who sign away all their privacy for a cookie (literally).
I'm not going to convince those of you who already signed up. You've obviously decided that 1gig reward was enough to pay any price. I'm writing this stuff for those people who actually do think.
Don't get g-mail. Place anyone who emails you from g-mail on ignore. If you message them back your email falls under the same standards as theirs: public property.

Tell me, Gohan. Can you tell me what it was you signed when you agreed to use g-mail? I bet you don't know a FRACTION of the rights you signed away.
Furthermore i'm sure you have no intention what-so-ever of going to one of the MANY sites and viewing one of MANY companies/law firms/watch dog groups reports that analyze all the problems with g-mail.
So, until you change from the status of "blissfully ignorant" to "willing to learn", then stfu and don't challenge me unless you can back it up with something better than "put on your tin foil hat".

Clipped pieces:
You acknowledge that Google owns all right, title and interest in and to the Service, including without limitation all intellectual property rights (the "Google Rights"), and such Google Rights are protected by U.S. and international intellectual property laws.
Your Intellectual Property Rights. Google does not claim any ownership in any of the content, including any text, data, information, images, photographs, music, sound, video, or other material, that you upload, transmit or store in your Gmail account. We will not use any of your content for any purpose except to provide you with the Service.
of Service. Gmail is a free, search-based email application from Google (the "Service"). You understand and agree that the Service may include content-targeted ads or other related information, as further described below and in the Gmail Privacy Policy. In addition, you understand and agree that the Service is provided on an AS IS and AS AVAILABLE basis. Google disclaims all responsibility and liability for the availability, timeliness, security or reliability of the Service. Google also reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the Service with or without notice at any time and without any liability to you.
Google understands that privacy is important to you. You do, however, agree that Google may monitor, edit or disclose your personal information, including the content of your emails, if required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process or governmental request (such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order),
Then dont get in trouble with the god damn law. LEGAL. I dont have ANYTHING to hide from the federal goverment.
We collect limited account information and store and maintain your account and email messages on our secure servers.
We will never rent, sell or share information that personally identifies you for marketing purposes without your express permission.
We serve highly relevant ads and other information as part of the service using our unique content-targeting technology. No human reads your email to target ads or related information to you without your consent. You can update your account information and preferences at any time.
We never share your personally identifying information with any advertiser as part of this service, unless you specifically ask us to do so. When you are logged into your Gmail account, Google will display targeted ads and other relevant information based on the content of the email displayed. In a completely automated process, computers process the text in a message and match it to ads or related information in Google's extensive database. No human reads your mail to target ads or other information without your consent
As a standard email protocol, when you send an email from your Gmail account, Gmail includes your email address and user name in the header of the email. Beyond this, we do not disclose your personally identifying information to third parties unless we believe we are required to do so by law or have a good faith belief that such access, preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, (b) enforce the Gmail Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations thereof, (c) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues (including, without limitation, the filtering of spam), (d) respond to user support requests, or (e) protect the rights, property or safety of Google, its users and the public.
We pay close attention to security. First, we focus significant time and resources to ensure that user accounts and information are not misused by Google employees. A limited set of employees are authorized to access user accounts, they are educated about the importance of maintaining user privacy, and their access to user accounts is recorded. Our employees are also contractually required to access accounts and log data only for quality, security, audit, and other internal business purposes. Second, we implement technology and procedures to try to make sure that external parties cannot access or modify users personal information on our servers. These technologies and procedures include industry standard methods as well as our own proprietary methods.
So yes, I have read the damn agreement, and I dont see ANYTHING that I have a problem with. If you are going to plot to make people die, I suppose then you would have a problem with it, however, I am not homicidal, and I will KEEP my GMAIL
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

No human reads your email to target ads or related information to you without your consent
Note the bold text. That's not a blanket statement saying "No human will read your email". It's just saying they don't need people to do the targeted ad crap. We all know that.
No human reads your mail to target ads or other information without your consent
Again.
Theres a LOT of shit that can fall in those 5 categories. Especially the 4th and 5th one. I can think of tons of loopholes.
We never share your personally identifying information with any advertiser as part of this service
Again, they leave out more than they say.
Beyond this, we do not disclose your personally identifying information to third parties
That bothers me as well. That should be worded MUCH more blanketly. Instead it means they can share your info with any company that has a relation with google.

It's all about reading comprehension. I've only taken 2 law classes and I can see the problems with that user agreement like a bright red neon sign. The reports done by law proffesionalls, software security experts, and watch dog groups can probably do a MUCH better job of it.
As is, i can't see how anyone over the age of 10 would feel confident signing that.

Oh dear God Tek, go read the hotmail agreement. Go read AOL's. Go read your cable company's agreement, and your internet service provider. Read the warranty information for your car.
AND THEN SHUT THE HELL UP, YOU BABY.
We collect limited account information and store and maintain your account and email messages on our secure servers.
We will never rent, sell or share information that personally identifies you for marketing purposes without your express permission.
We serve highly relevant ads and other information as part of the service using our unique content-targeting technology. No human reads your email to target ads or related information to you without your consent, Satan reads your mail (but we don't consider him "human"). Satan is collecting information on TekDragon. Satan wants TekDragon's soul and uses Gmail as his chosen instrument of evil. All mail with the key words 'Tek' and 'Dragon' are forwarded straight to Hell automatically without prompting the user. We also CC the CIA, NSA, FBI, IRS, Gestapo, and KGB with any mail containing 'Tek' or 'Dragon'. They just like to keep tabs. The Catholic church only gets mail forwarded to them if the key words 'Tek' or 'Dragon' occur in the title, as they are not as thorough as the CIA, NSA, FBI, IRS, Gestapo, KGB, and ofcourse Satan. You can update your account information and preferences at any time.

God, Gmail is only being attacked because it's obvious that it's going to attract a lot of clients with it's large space and high quality organizing, so it's only natural that there's going to be people attacking Gmail for being better than the competition. As it has been said, Gmail's user agreement is just like your average user agreement.
