I know spyware threads are getting repetitive but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this...

Well, I have kept my computer spyware free for over a year now without adaware or spybot s&d. All of the sudden I am getting tons of popups and I have a Lycos Search Icon and a search bar above my toolbar. I have also noticed an "optimize.exe" running. I thought to myself., "Hmm, ok I'll just download some adware/spyware removal stuff." I go to Adaware.com and it gives me a very unproffesional, sloppy page saying, "This page has been blocked by your computer's administrator." I AM THE FUCKING ADMINISTRATOR. This is the same for any other spyware removal sites i attempt to view. I see a reformat in the very near future.... :scared:

Format now. Save yourself the time.

In the meanwhile, push your legislators to get off their fat asses and make some more anti-spyware legislation as Utah has done.

I also think we should recruit "white" hackers, (those that use their powers to track down other hackers, etc.) find out who these spying SOBs are, and send them to the big house for a while.

Try these two programs.

Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org)
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com)

Spyware blaster prevents any ActiveX based programs from scamming you.

yankee, you have 'cleveriehooker' i believe. it's an ie hook that's blocking your access to adaware, which can remove the application. it also probably gives you a different first page of search results every time you go to google...

I restored to a couple days ago and the problem seems to be solved. Now adaware.com works. It has some spyware software and was just a shot in the dark to try and find some utilities to block that shit. I couldn't even search google for it. Any use of the word spyware seemed to get me to that goofy page. Wish I had gotten some pics of it, but too late now. I'll have to watch out for that 'cleveriehooker'.

I just found 59 instances of spyware and 10 viruses on my work computer.

A little frightening, considering I have students flight records at hand that can be screwed with so easily.
