In order to celebrate the future release of Tribed: Vengence, Vivendi Universal is providing the full download of the original Tribes game. Best thing? It's FREE. I got on today and was suprized to see several full servers. It was nostalgia all over again and I actually had fun. Fast load times, amazing FPS, but then again it ain't no Far Cry. ;)

The full game can be DL'ed here (http://www.vugames.com/file_list.do?gamePlatformId=286), along with the patchs.

*NOTE* When you install the game, it asks if you would want to auto-update. Click NO, and download this (http://www.vugames.com/downloadfile.do?gamePlatformId=286&mediaid=5775) patch. It should work. Also, once you start the DL, the Install Shield seems to stop at 99%. It is loading, so just give it a sec.

Hope to see some of you guys on. :)

oh yeah, and tribes sucksJust a heads up - Tribes 2, which was somewhat of a sequel to Tribes 1, was SmokeJumper's first attempt at an MMOFPS. His dream for what would one day become PlanetSide began in Tribes 2.

So, this community can actually trace it's roots back to Tribes. ;)

Awesome, now that some of the servers are filling back up I might give it another try. Guess i'll have to find where i buried the old Tribes skillz and dust em off.

Indeed. The man had the vision but he did not have the hardware.

It's hard to believe he went from Tribes 2 to PS. Seems to me like the developers of Tribes would be barfing over the gameplay style of PS. Very little skill required. All about the zerg fest.

tek you just came from flamming gohan didn't you? thats probable why that sounded so stupid.. oh well ps and tribes2 are very similar but not as many people can zerg a base in tribes 2. if ps had only 10-20 people in one small area it would be dam close to T2

Tribes 2 is one of the hardest fucking FPS's to play, everyone else is so much damn better than me. :(

Zeus the fact that you mentioned Tribes and PS in the same sentence without the words "are totally fucking different FPS styles" shows you have no clue what your talking about.

Have you even played Tribes? I just got done trying PS for the first time this morning. I can tell you it's NOTHING like Tribes.

Tribes was not MMO.No it wasn't, but it was the first baby steps to an MMOFPS. T2 had the tremendous maps, the massive use of vehicles requiring multiple ship formations and it also had the Jericho, which was very similar to an AMS. Personally I feel SmokeJumper's dream was too big for Sierra to comprehend and they lost out on the chance to do it. Plus you had all the T1 people screaming it wasn't like T1 - duh - it wasn't T1.

Anyway, it is all history now and SJ has intelligently divorced himself from that community.
