View Full Version : Why Am I Doing This?

Ugh, it seems this week I just can't be pleased by this game, I am confronted with one thing after another that makes me wanna round up all the devs and stuff em in a hurt locker. Wheither it be the fact that EVERYONE has HA and that it is what SOE said they wouldn't do (just an all out better killing machine. I beleive somewhere they stated that the intention of gaining new certs is not to be more lethal, just more versital...) or the horrible base layout, or the fact that I have to go get a gig of ram in order to play a year old game on the lowest settings! But my newest greif has nothing to do with that...

I was previously playing my sniper character due to the fact that up close combat makes my relativly nice machine (2.0 AMD XP, 512 PC2700 and a Geforce fx5900se) break down and cry. But I got tired of long distance sniper fights so I figured I would go for the other job that is ok to due without worring about lag: The Infiltrator.

But I began to play, I began to ask myself, why am I doing this? As the infiltrator I coudn't accomplish darn near anything. I'm not any idiot newbie either, I played him from br1 to br14 (he was my first character, before I knew about training) and I used to do great things with him, but the last time I played him was before the rexo buff. Now I can't do anything! Killing is about impossible unless the guy is injured, in agile, afk or something. The big 3 objectives are unaccomplishable, I can't hack the CC, cause its full of darklighters, can't blow the tubes cause they normally have a darklighter in there running interferance, and I can't blow the gen, because it would entail numorous trips to and from the gen and locker to get ACEs and in that time, somebody will have capped my due to DLV.

The Infiltrator just can't seem to do the same amount of good as a standard grunt. I don't give 2 flips about XP, I have about all the certs I want right now, I just want to feel like I am making a difference in the fight. I used to get that back when I played him, but not anymore...

The reason is that in most fights, its either a zerg on zerg battle, or a small group vs an empty continent.

In a zerg on zerg there is far too many people to slewth around the enemy base and get anything done, other then a stray lucky kill.

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? Is there some special way to play infiltrators now that I don't know because I haven't played him in a while? Some sort of gypsie curse? :D

PS:My certs are as follows: Infil, CE, Adv Hack, Mossie, AA Max.

If I can't make nay use out of this character before I get my gig of ram, I am just gonna change him into a pilot or grunt or something...

Also, I thought I would take this time to share with yall a little escape trick I just learned:
If you use grenades, then whenever someone sees you and gives chase, go around a corner, put the grenade in secondary mode, and tap the triger. The grenade will be dropped at your feet, but will not go off for a couple more seconds. Nobody ever sees this grenade and will often times walk right into it if timed right, if not it will at least freak them out on where the explosion came from out of nowhere. Just make sure you keep moving away from the grenade after you drop it, lest you get cought in the blast...

I'm thinkin' your concerns about battle density will be addressed by Battle Islands, we shall see.

Blowing the Generator as an infiltrator, even in a hot zone, isn't really that hard. All you have to do is be patient; i.e., crouch-walk to and from the room below the spawn rooms, lay twelve Boomers, and blow them with a Jammer. As long as you're always crouched, enemy soldiers should be given no reason to activate their Darklight. Placing a successful or even distractive hack in a hot base is nigh impossible, barring one thing; blow the gen first. As soon as you throw in the Jammer, blowing the Generator, go as quickly as you can without being seen to the Control Console. Hopefully, the enemies in there will have run down to the Generator like constipated Jack Terriers. If they haven't, toss in a Jammer to neutralize their Darklight, and hack from right under their noses. As for getting kills, just get to the enemy positions where their snipers are, and wreck havoc with Melee Booster and Boomers.

HAven't even been following the Battle Islands, but now that you mention it, that does look promising...

Maybe I just need to get used to the new booby trap centered infiltrator strategy. I am used to before, when if you where one on one and you had the drop on the guy, you could take him out.

Guess its time to hang up the pistol, and get out the ACE...

when i was doing some infil exparamenting, i found the Melee Boost + ACE is very effective, much better TTK than a pistol

I see alot of people on the OF (man, I hate that place) talking about how good the spiker is as an infil pistol.

Is there any way to get a spiker without buying cc? Could I get someone who has CC to get me some or something?

Thanks in advance.

...As for getting kills, just get to the enemy positions where their snipers are, and wreck havoc with Melee Booster and Boomers.

Just remember to time your boomer placement when the sniper fires, that way he can't hear you place the boomer. A lot of the time, snipers are far enought away from the battle to be able to hear the beep a boomer makes when you place it. Also, don't forget Sensor Shield, nothing like sneeking up to a sniper with audio amp on, just to have him spin around a get you in one shot. Then send you a tell saying he knew you were there and was just waiting for the perfect moment :( :( I hate that.

Wellllllll, there is the keycrack route, but that takes wayyyyy to long on a MMO game.
