new processor unstable

K I just got my new processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton :D , and got in in my comp, changed all the jumpers and bios to accomodate, and can I just say it runs AWESOME!!!. That combined with my 512 kingston hyper X, and my PNY GeForce FX5200 Ultra 256 is pretty nice :D . Anyways, back to my problem, running all my other programs is no match for my setup, but for some reason PS brings my comp to its knees :confused: , after about 10 seconds of running through the sanc everything locks up. A buddy of mine said it may be my power supply, (only 300w) is this so, I didn't think it would effect things that much. I swapped back in my dinky 1100+ for now and will be testing my 3000+ in a friends comp to see if thats the problem. Any suggestions and or prior experiences with a similar problem would be appreciated.

I have the same processor and experience the same exact problem right now. I've been trying for about 2 weeks to get it working w/ tech support from SOE. I have a similair thread:

I didn't think it was a Hard Ware problem, but maybe. I'm thinking about getting in contact with AMD now. I'll keep ya posted with any success or new info I find.

What MB you got?

May want to feed the cpu a little more power. 1.675 to 1.7 v should be fine, may run a little warmer, but could get it stable.

Check your RAM. Had the same sort of thing happen to me, found out it was a bad stick of 512Mb. Forgot the program that diagnoses it for ya, something like memchecker. Google it.

I have a 450W Power supply and 1GB of pc2700 RAM so...yea...I'll try to change the voltage for the CPU, that sounds reasonable, I'll just run my CPU fan @ 5500 RPM instead of 4500RPM(its a sweeeet fan (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-106-035&depa=1))

I have an Abit NF7-S for a MB. It would be sweet if you could find that RAM tester thingy.

I have a question. I have an AMD Athalon XP 3000+ "Barton" 512k Cache 400MHz FSB(same as Toneball) and 1 GB of pc 2700 DIMM DDR RAM, which runs at 333MHz. Will that speed difference cause this problem to occur?

K, try my proc. in my friends comp, works fine (same with RAM). As for my Mobo: Soltek 7Fsomething or other (I'm at work, don't know it off the top of my head) The only other game I run with visual strain is Halo, but that's not that bad. So I just ordered my new case w/ 450w powersupply and another stick of 512. Thank's for the help.
