stupid Vivendi. Sierra published too many good games. Although, admittedly, there were some bad ones.

The games industry is booming, but it's not long before it caves in on itself.
Every time another rehashed sequel is made, every time a patch comes out on release date, every time a poorly made movie spinoff is brainstormed, I die a little inside :(

VU Games is looking for some higher revenues with titles like World of Warcraft, Spyro: A Hero's Tail and the well-received The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.
Who the fuck are they kidding?

^Spyro sucks (but a good kids game I suppose) but World of Warcraft is good, so is Butcher Bay.

Idea: Instead of hoping to get money from Jazz Jackrabbit, give us TF2. But no, we'll just fold the company and bank on Spyro. That'll work.

That's it, I'm converting to Islam so I can declare Jihad on all of the crappy video game companies that get rid of their good partners/subdivisions.

World of Warcraft may own and Chronicles of Riddick is an awsome game thankyouverymuch. Spyro... eh, not so much.
But sierra still made better games. Loderunner anyone? That game owned hard core. Loderunner 2 sucked, but the orignal, or whatever one alowed for two people to play on one computer together. That one was so fun to play wiht my friends.

I hate Vivendi with a passion. Ever since the Williams family sold the company, it's gone downhill. Half-Life and the NASCAR series was about the only thing keeping Sierra afloat, and even those were done by studios that Sierra had bought prior to being bought by Vivendi, so effectively the Sierra name died when the Williams family left. I miss good adventure games. Lucasarts is the only company left that makes good ones, and even then, they're too pussy to make them these days it seems.

I think the main problem is that people don't necessarily try to make the best games anymore, they just try to make games that get you the most money. Case in point: EverQuest. In the old days, designing, etc. was cheap and fast. That's why Doom plays well, even now. Now, it's all for special effects.

Yup, that is in the 2nd Episode "Day Of Days" where EC attacks brecourt manner. The person pictured (1st Lieutenant Lynn 'Buck' Compton) fumbles the grenade and he and 2 other men narrowly escape a friendly fire incident. LT. Compton is played by Neal McDonough.

It's not too bad. Sure, Sierra gave many people fond memories in their earlier days, but they've merely been a publisher for years now. They didn't really have a considerable part in the development of most of the games people assume they did (eg: Half-Life).
So as far as the ongoing life of gaming is concerned, it's no big deal.

"Restructuring the organization and reducing our cost base are necessary to improve our operating effectiveness and profitability," said VU Games CEO Bruce Hack, in as terse a manner as possible. "This constitutes another important step in our turnaround plan aimed to better position the company for growth."

Exactly. Sierra was primarily a publisher, not a creator of games. Way back when? Sure they made some good stuff. But it's been ages since Sierra actually put out a good game that they did much more to than simply publish.
They've been going down for years guys. I can't believe more people didn't see this coming =\

IMO, seirra hasnt made a good game in quite a while, sure, CS gets alot of money, but it has been quite a long time since they made Quest for Glory and Red Barron folks. Yea, homeworld was a very good RTS, but then again there are not that many good ones out there.
