I had some vietmanese food last night in my "American experience in vietnam" class..... some sort of desert that had jello, beans, and coconut (it was that bad.... could only taste the coconut). Then I had some sort of rice wrap with lettece, shrimp, and some sort of meat... (i hope it wasn't dog meat)....
It was "intresting and different" to say the least..... I hope i don't get sick :) Anyone have this stuff before or vietmanese food on a regular basis? thoughts?

Go to Vietnam someday, decent food (best breakfast you can get in Asia), and some interesting stuff left over from the war. The wrap you had was probably fresh spring rolls, basically the same as a spring roll, but without the deep fry. The dessert is also pretty standard, but I would agree with you about the mediocre taste.

my best friend is vietnamese, I eat there occasionally. The coconut dessert I had was in a big punch bowl with black beans and that jello stuff, I thought it was pretty good myself. The food is very different, but pretty good imho. I think they go more for texture than a bunch of different tastes, as least it seemed that way to me...

Neither have I. I know there's alot of Vietnamese and some Korean places downtown and billions of Chinese places. I normally stick with my 'whatever crap I can find from the fridge or cupboard unless it has mold on it except cheese which is ok if you just cut off the mold'. Also, Chinese food is expensive for me.

Vietnamese food is good, most asian food is, I think the dog meat comment was a little, stereotypical, but dont worry you wont get any flack from it cause your name isnt ABRAXAAS

It depends on the restuarant, some have food that isn't spicy at all.

I really can't stand most curry. There are some Vietnamese or thai pork skewers that have curry on them that I really like but that's about it.

Vietnamese Curry is a whole different spice from Indian Curry. And for the record, it is 1000% better.
