View Full Version : What does Independence Day mean to you?

With July 4th rapidly approaching now is the time to reflect on what the day truely means to us Americans. Is it our celebration of OUR freedom over English opression? That is what most of us are taught in school about the holiday... Or is it the celebration of ANY man's, woman's, and child's right to be free?
To me it is the second choice... for a very long time in the 17 and 1800s America was an example of freedom. In France, the people strived to have had what we have... In England, reforms swept the nation's political system making it more and more democratic. While, yes, July 4th is the celebration of American freedom, it should more be considered the celebration of all freedom over all oppression...
What does it mean to you?

The positive side; freedom. And the negative side; the beginning of war, all of the time.

It stands for our freedom; freedom of choice, freedom of speach, It stands for every man, woman, and child we've lost to build this great country, it stands for every american soldier quivering in a trench knowing damn well he will have to expose himself again to do his job as a soldier, it stands for the 20 year old private who gave his life to save his country, It stands for all that freedom.

4th of July means going down to South Caroline, filling 2 duffel bags up with explosives, going back to your home town - and blowing shit up.
That, and looking up French insult jokes.

It means absolutely nothing to me.
Unless someone says something about it, I don't even think about it the whole day.

The ones that give off sparkles in the shape of the hammer and sickle?
I hope I can find where he's shooting them. I'll shoot my "Red, White, and Blue" fireworks off right into his.

it means the day when the United States of America was formed, a nation which has such great ideals that there became a point when there were so many imigrants they had to limit the ammount into this great nation per year. a nation tollerate of others opinions, and a nation when unable to be tollerate of others, kicks their asses.
fireworks suck.

every july 4th i'm here in ohio. every july 4th.
this is what july 4th means to me:
july 4th is the day out of every year when i make a trip to my best friend's house to watch his dad put on a massive fireworks display. it's completely illegal in ohio, but who gives a jee-jimmity fuck box if it's illegal?
anyways, we have a huge show, a great barbecue, and for the last five years the females have been very appealing during this period of time. :D
this, like i said, all takes place at my best friend's house. but not this year.
this year he's in kuwait.
i can't even describe how much i miss him and how much i'm going to miss hanging with him on the 4th. fuck Saddam Hussein. he's the reason why i don't get to see my friend for the short period of time i'm spending in Ohio this summer.
i hope they do something really horrific to that mother fucker.
what's july 4th mean to me? it used to mean i got to spend time with the only guy i've ever been able to call my brother. now it's just another day of anger. i hate Saddam Hussein. may he rot in shit forever.

Maybe i'll scan and upload the newspaper clipping of how I instigated a small riot in Chestertown, MD. A missle rack and a few cherry bombs sure can piss off 30-40 rednecks drinking in a parking lot.
Now THAT was one hell of a 4th of July.

I was joking, theres no way I can - it's down in MD at my mother's place.
There was a big thread on it when it happened, with links to the online news page. If you were on then, you might remember. It involved some knifings, a black kid running with a weed stash, a high speed chase, and a first degree assault charge. Ring any bells?

It means getting a propane tank, a rag, karosine, matches, and a gun.
1. dump rag in karosine
2. light rag on fire
3. throw it on propane tank
4. shoot tank several times
5. jump into fast car if nessesary of calling the fire department
Oh and if i got no time for that, go to the beach and light off fireworks.

It used to mean "sparkler bomb". Not this year. Nowhere to detonate a bundle of about 512 sticks of sparklers.
It's quite a sight, though. I assure you.

What I do is actually pretty pretty, I saw some guy do it on like Real TV or something. Did just about the same thing as him. When you shoot the tank, jets of fire shoot out of it. Depends on how many shots, I usualy say dont shoot that much just because i dont want to loose my hearing. Course my friends dad gets little trigger happy and one year he stacked a bunch of beer cans on top of each other (taped together so they dont fall off) with firecrackers in them and shot each one while the tank was burning. It was pretty funny, we might do some other stuff this year if we can go out to a non fire hazerdous area (not their backyard).
