Threyre running a deal where its only $9.95 for several months. I want to see if anyone plays/ has played/ tried it and liked it?

Need opinions. I might just give this game a try.

Why do you think it's so cheap?
Crap game.

AO is extremely unfriendly to new players. There is just way too much to learn, yet there is no adequate tutorial or documentation that'll help you figure things out. And gameplay is pretty crummy, really. The world is plain and unremarkable, and the cities are largely empty. The playerbase is shrinking as well, so during the month I played, there was very little activity.

AO Is the best MMORPG if you're in to the cyberpunk scene. (IE - Not the whole "oh look at my horse and broadsword crap in everquest etc)

I'd reccomend you download the 7 day free trial going on at the moment and try for yourself. Sure it's not the prettiest of games, but it's one of the the best MMORPGs around.

AO was one of the best MMORPGS ever. The gameplay was awesome...and the first dungeon, the subway...God that rocked...So much atmosphere.

I had like a lvl 12 medic on rubi-ka 1
That game pwned. I played it until swg came out, I played it for like a week or 2 I think.

I played an AO trial one time. The game wasn't much fun, i got stuck in a wall for 10 minuates not 2 minuates after I started playing. I dont really remember much other then that and playing as an obease black man w/ afro and clownlike clothing. oh and my weapon looked like an alien (from the movie Alien) skull.

It was asstastic back in the day but IMO it's improved 120%. Probably the best future MMORPG on the market. Talk to LunarWarrior, he played for a long time..

The new expansion looks good too.

The first 6 months or so were horrid, but most MMOs start out really bad.

I used to play neocron, was a good game... the only problem was - levelling sucked at first, and also the combat was bad, would have been much better if the combat was like an FPS.

You want a good MMO. Get Eve. It owns AO hardcore.

The game itself costs 10 bucks more then AO, but if you get a 7 day free trial of eve and like it, ill paypal you the extra 10 to buy the game. Seriously. (Offer valid for Eine only) I want more PSU people to play with.

I'm afraid your opinion means shit to me on the topic of MMOs, as you love Eve.

Edit: beta'd eve, tried a friends account a few months after release, it still sucked.
I'm not going back.
..ever.

Indeed.

In all honesty, AO has some innovative ideas, it's just it implements those ideas rather poorly in my opinion.

Eve looks cool, combat looks cool, but it doesnt have an awful lot TO DO in it IMO. I still have an account open in fact, never bothered to close it. The grinding in it kinda sucked, even though it really was a beautiful game.

In other news, Earth and Beyond is being shut down. I played it for 9 months in beta, during which I became one of the more powerful characters on the server. Then there were a series of player wipes that left me kinda ticked off and not lookin forward to grinding back up to lvl 150 again. Then the game was released, and I realized that I'd already DONE everything. I'd killed every MOB in the game, had all the best weapons, and been to every area. I'd also done most of the missions. To cap it all off, the players where wiped again on release. I played it for another month or so after the release, and finally quit. It wasn't being patched with new stuff often enough to keep my attention, and EA broke up the Westwood Devs (who during beta I'd had a hell of a time with, grouping up and killing shit with Devs is awesome) and that was really the last straw for me. It was a cool game, really was, and its kinda sad what happened to it. I left a guild with like 200+ players, as the 3rd guy in command (I had gained quite a bit of rank!), had to leave a lot of friends behind too, so it was definately sad times... ah well, as they say, time marches on, new shit happens :p

ps- OMG SOMEONE HOOK ME UP WITH A GMAIL!!! (Waves his EVE CD)

You played E&B as well... its too true that EA ruined that game... and just when it looked like it was getting better "We are sad to announce the closure of Earth and Beyond. At this time we just need a bigger development staff for the Anarchy Online team..." It goes like this: EA needs a bigger MMO development budget... they try too mnay projects at once and in the end they all get ruined by a 'lack of resources'

I played AO for a while as an engineer. Was pretty good. I'm sure it'd be better if I got into a guild or something though.

I've played this game for 2+ years, and I must say, it's the BEST MMORPG i've ever played. Evar.

The content is unbelievable, a patch ever half-month or so, and a wonderful community where the DEVs actually listen.

I played for 3 months or so and it was enjoyable I mean it was hard but hell.

I played during the first three months too... great customization option too...

In the end it's your choice really...

The "leet" pets are actually in-game MOBs. Don't badmouth AO if you haven't played it mush. Go suck a rock.

ill just stick with eve for now

ive got a battleship now, but im totally broke, i went from 141mil to 5 mil, BS+insurance will leave you on the street, plus i gotta train shitload more skills to kit this thing out

she wont be combat ready for another month or two, but in the meantime i think ill get a caracal and use that as my pvp ship

the thing about eve is you need to play it for a long time for it to get good
